Brooke, this is incredible. Such a profound poem in perfect rictameter form. This is a hard form to master. I considered giving it a try, then thought better. Also loved the rhyming. Congratulations on winning the contest - certainly not surprising. Bill

Thank you, Bill. I find this form incredibly difficult to write in - every time I've used it was a frustrating experience. LOL Brooke :-)

I like it, reminds me of the current strifes that I've been faced with lately. But I stepped through the door a long time ago, can't turn back now and pretend like I never opened it. ;) Curiousity, exploring--is a driving force for the human race. Those that choose not to walk through the door are missing out.

Kamal, thank you for your kind words - since on this site a 4 review means you believe the poem is in need of revision, I would appreciate your clarifying for me what part you think needs to be fixed. Brooke

Hey, Brooke. I love this piece, but I can't help but view the second line as fatally flawed. I'm sorry to be an old pedant when so many others don't see the flaw. (Congratulations on the win, by the way.)

'I cross the door', I'm sorry, you can't cross a door, you can't even cross a doorway.

Now, 'I ope the door' works, even if it is a bit archaic.

I wondered about that before I wrote it so googled the phrase and found several places where people have used the phrase, so I went ahead with it. I understand your thoughts as I had the doubts myself and can't fault you for finding it a flaw :-) Thanks, Maurice. Brooke

I really like this poem. I have always been a big fan of exploration and discovery, probably because of my asthmatic childhood and the year I spent in a wheelchair. That's why I read everything I could get my hands on. I had a special relationship with the librarian.

You have constructed this with the utmost care and wisdom. The alliteration, the assonance and consonance, and the word choice are right on the mark.

Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations on a well-deserved win, Brooke. I like to study your poems. You make it look so easy, yet each poem has so many ingredients to consider. Somehow, you always manage to choose a strong message, and then blend in the exact right words to make it pop. This one is a fine example. Thanks for sharing your work and ideas. Mary
