Very nice, very touching. And a great picture, too! Now i have to ask: Are you Jewish? Not the first time you mentioned something in Hebrew, but you also mentioned Church? I'm kind of confused, and more than a tiny bit curious, being Jewish myself.
Thanks.

I'm not Jewish. In fact, I'm a Lay Episcopal Minister. I admire your religion. It always amazes me that it has been such a centering influence on so many people, for so many years. I have travelled to many places in the World, and Israel was my favorite. I've always been fascinated by history and there is no place on earth with more historical as well as religious significance. Thank you very much for reading!

Figures you would also be a minister! (Albeit, a Lay Minister.)
Thank you! That's really nice to hear!
But, I'm still curious. Why does your granddaughter have a Hebrew name?
    You're welcome!

Well, I get some credit for that. A friend that I visited in Tel Aviv had the most beautiful daughter I had ever seen whose name was Lael. I mentioned to my own daughter and the rest is history! Shalom Menachem.

This is a nice and exciting story that depicts the usefulness of paying attention to little details. The divorce part is painful especially what it does to children. kudos

This almost made me want to cry! It was beautifully written and incredibly touching! I loved your descriptions of the sounds and your relationship with your daughter. Sigh. I can't think of anything else to write. It was awesome. Really.

i really enjoyed this passage
the beginning praghraph grabbed your attention really quickly and i loved how you described the light

i also loved how you spoke about missing some sounds of your daughters life, but not the sound of her saying I Do.

This is a very excellent story and I enjoyed it very much. The sound of the swing is familiar to me too. Keep up the great work.

bhogg, this was beautifull to read and I am happy I have the privilege of reviewing it. I can relate to what you say about our senses and memories being linked. I am also a music lover and when I listed to my music I can actually transport myself to the place and time when I first heard the song. The subject matter is an interesting one and the imagery is great. But the connection that is made between your daughter, your grand daughter and you is definitely linked to music...thanks For sharing....mary

Hi Mary - thanks for reading and for your kind words. I was in the car for awhile and tuned my serius radio to a 1960's station. There were a couple of times I almost pulled over and just listened!

A lovely written piece of work. Your very desciptive words put the reader at the scene. And how lovely to look back on those special memories. A very touching closing sentence.

AW, this is charming and sweet. Sentimental (in a good way) and a nice tribute to the shared sounds of your daughter's (and granddaughter's) childhoods.

No spags.

"I hear the hammock singing!". You lose in translation to try and write sounds, but it was something like, ennnnnnnh, enh, ennnnnnnh, enh, ennnnnnnh, enh.

Just love that. LOL

Thanks for sharing. Bet she loved reading this too!

Hi rd - thanks for dropping by! My daughter actually added a sensory dimension. I am an avid outdoor cook and many of the times we played our game, I was grilling something outside. She claims that to this day she find comfort in grill smoke because she could smell it on my clothes when we were in the hammock.
Congratualtions on winning the reviewer award!

Hi Bhogg,

This is a touching and well written little memoire, tinged with regrets, but also great happiness.

It is an engaging read and the emotion of love is clearly the theme.

I enjoyed this essay and have no edits or suggestions for you.
