It captures the violence and terror of life in Africa. The beautiful animals and vistas disguise the true nature of the land. You have put that beautifully and terrifyingly into words.

Whoa!!! Fabulous imagery!
This reminds me of watching the TV program 'Wild Kingdom with Marlin Perkins' when I was a child. I used to watch in horror as animals would hunt down smaller prey. I always rooted for the underdog and couldn't understand why the photographers stood and watched without helping the poor little victims.
This is a wonderfully written poem, Brooke. The flow is very smooth and the picture painted is clear. Very dynamic!
Stunning work.
I love it.
No suggestions. (If there was anything to change in any of your poems, I'd be having palpitations and clutching my chest. You're a perfectionist and it shows in your work.) LOL
Brilliant. (I still can't give you a sixer - but I would if I could.)

Nic, great. Now in addition to my normal obsessive/compulsive need to eliminate any errors before I post because I can't stand the embarrassment of having someone point out a typo, now I have the added burden of knowing if I ever slip up I am going to give you palpitations!!! LOL Thank you for your lovely and generous review. You're the best - stay healthy!! Brooke :-)

I really enjoyed reading your poem, it explains the beauty of mother nature, so peacefull, like. The poem, while reading it jumps out you, well done.

Really nice, I love the imagery here and could picture the zebras fleeing lions and jackals through the plains as I read, even though I've never even been to Africa (but want to).

Thank you, Dr.Carter, for your thoughtful review - I, too, have not been but would love to see it all firsthand and not just in documentaries :-) Brooke

Brooke,
These quatrains in 9/8/9/8 have a musical flow when they are read aloud. I will try to write one after I get my
daDUMdaDUM under control. But, then again, having to
hit on syllables 3,6, and 8 is going to be difficult, because I am having enough problems with daDUMdaDum:(
Seriously, I do like the structure, the meter, and the description within the poem. I have flown over a small portion of those plains in a balloon and they are spectacular. Those plains, by the way, are at an elevation of 4,000 feet. A wonderful poem as always.
Fondly, Lyle

Thank you, Lyle, for such a generous review!! You flew over them in a balloon????? I am now dying with envy. I don't care if I'm not supposed to covet - I am coveting big time. LOL Brooke :-)

Well done! You have taken my imagination on a realistic journey to the Serengeti.
Your descriptions are vivid, making the scenes you've painted come to life.

K... gotta try this one...
I love to drug all of the penguins
That languor all day at the zoo;
I take one or two home for dinner:
It's fun just to feed them to you.
Oops, failure! da-da-dumdumdum!
Not a very cheery poem you've written...but
vicious, vicious...RRrrrrrrrroooooooow!

Another marvelous poem, Brooke. I always wonder where you get your inspiration from. This is a sad but necessary fact of life. I don't like watching nature shows which show this kind of thing. You have captured it perfectly.

John, thank you!! The inspiration comes from a bazillion places - in this case, it was this beautiful picture combined with documentaries I've watched in the past :-) Brooke

I am never disappointed in opening
up one of your creations. Besides
being beautifully constructed, visually
perfect in the way you dip your brush
into the palate of words which you
softly spread upon this site, your
author's notes are a class in writing
all by themselves.
You are both prolific and an artist
with words.
As always, well done
