This is extremely good. You handle the language problem well. The turn at the end to Christianity is subtle enough to reach even the most evangelical of atheists. One of your best.

Great idea for a story, though it could use a little more tension but it held my interest. You should include a description of the aliens, though; while we may not need detailed descriptions of the human characters (though it helps), it helps to know whether these aliens are humanoid, look just like humans or reptiles, etc. Also, this line is awkward: "The bird seed she'd planned to fill the feeder with, poured onto the frost-covered lawn." Instead, you could say, "The bird seed she'd planned to use in the feeder poured onto the frost-covered lawn."

Hi Janilou...I really like this story and was engaged in it after the first few lines. Perhaps it is not far from the truth. it is presumptions of us on earth to think we are the only ones...the chosen ones. Who knows? A well written story with a memorable ending....blessings....chey

Jan,
Haven't seen much of you lately. This is an excellent story, and it is more suited to spiritual fiction than to sci-fi. I enjoyed reading this post and have one suggestion:
"Apparently, the aliens have already made contact with the President, )This comma should come out.) and the Armed Forces."
What would we do if the aliens came? It would be difficult to judge their motivation, and the President would come under pressure to shoot first and ask questions later. To my mind, the most thoughtful movie on this subject is the old fifties, "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

Nicely written. I like the underlying thought and your presentation of tht message. It only makes sense that many forms of life exist within such an infinite universe. It is unthinkable that we or they were created without a plan for our existence both in this life and any we may have already experienced or will experience. Good job. ann

We probably are quite arrogant to believe that we are the only planet that has life on it. Why couldn't there be the possibility of others? And if there are, do they believe as we do or totally a different view? Interesting!!

Ah Jan, I don't get to read your work so much as I'm pressed for time - but I'm so glad to have read this. It's both well-told and uplifting. Glad you managed to get it out of the attic!:) Tom x

This is a very touching piece. I really hope that when life on other planets decides to speak to the general public, that the encounter will be as beneficial and peaceful as this.
Your kind, hopeful and loving nature always comes through in your writing. :)
This was my favorite line: "The message hung in the early morning sky like a fog unwilling to be burned away by the rising sun."
Well-written.

Hmm, yes, this is something that touches every discussion of our understanding of a "Saving God". Would he single us out as the only life form to be saved? Probably not. Well done.
