The different number of lines in a verse is a little distracting; and interrupt the rhyme used predominately in lines 2 and 4. The story is interesting and well detailed.
The poem reads well. You might consider balancing the verses. I do think it would enhance the lines that rhyme and the flow.

I thank you for reviewing this, in writing these up I sort of think of perfromance and I do try to keep the lines within the stanza the same. Thank you for reviewing this poem. Mike

You are always making me hungry Mike! LOL.
I love German food. Sour cabbage and pork roast,
delicious.

You did a wonderful job writing about
something as mundane as a restaurant.
Good job my friend.

I thank you very much for the compliments and this review. I haven't had sour cabbage since my grandmother passed in the 70s. I'll have to make that. I am working on steamed crabs now, but one of them was a live guy. Have a great weekend.

world's largest ball - add the apostrophe
hope your steady on your feet - should be you're steady
My dad had a couple of "fancy" restaurants he took me too when it was Sunday supper time - the memories of places like Bookbinders are great - and it is sad to see such a great old place closed down - you do a great job of showing a child's awe at all this splendor. Brooke

Bless you for your SPAG, your, I mean you're one of the best. I can look at something a hundred times and still not find it. To me, it's a talent.

Though, I presented this poem in a child's awe; I really wanted to show how the adults figure into producing it. It was sad when it closed, but what really brought it out was when I couldn't find the Wikipedia articles that were once there. Their story was worth perserving.

I thank you very much for your help and this review. Have a great weekend too, Mike

Hello Mike, Irish here.
What a remarkable story! It is so sad to see landmarks like that German restaraunt go by the way. You didn't say how old you were at the time, but what a great memory you have kept of a unique experience. Many years ago I worked in San Francisco, and often ate at a huge German restaraunt, Schroeder's at 240 Front Street in San Fracisco, CA. Henry Schroeder opened the doors in 1893. There was a bar behind glass one one side of the dining room. In those days it was a 'men only' establishment, but later they started admitting ladies after 1:30 in the afternoon. All waiters were stiff, staunch men in black pants and white shirts. The food was outstanding.
You gave us a great picture of a vanished landmark.

I think what makes for a fine dining experience is the atmosphere and very often those are more ethnically European, brinds with the the traits of relaxing and allowing you to enjoy that experience, as opposed to every five minutes, "Is everything OK?" After the third time, I start to wonder what they did to the food.

I thank you very much and thank you for your input, compliments and this review. Mike

This is so strange. I missed the Chapter tittle 'Hausner's Restaurant' and as I read your poem I thought, 'Great Zeus, it sounds like Hausner's." As I read your final note, I realized that it was Hausner's you were writing of. Beginning in the 1960's and continuing for almost three decades I regularly traveled to D.C. on business and just as regularly drove the 50 miles to Baltimore with friends and customers to dine there. The menu was impressive but I believe my order every time was the 2 1/2 pound Maine Lobster. A tour of the displayed art and the museum (upstair?) was a regular delight.

I am working from memory, but they also had art downstairs which was where the vase and string ball were located. This review I must say that I cherish; it tells me that the poem is right on and also honors the restautant with the uniqueness, as well other people have the same view. That has been invaluable to me with this site.

I thank you very much for your review, the compliments and the imput. Mike - Perhaps being exposed to such things aided me in gaining my desire and interest for art. I haven't done much in regards to it, but for me it is a great thing to be able to use it to bolster the writing. I placed a reserve order for a baker's dozen of steamed Maryland crabs plus a live one for the next poem. Bet you that shoot will become an adventure! Have a great weekend, Mike.

This sounded like it was a wonderful place. It is ashame they had to close but time moves on and new enterprises take up the old. Very good poem.

You can never replace your memories. Today everything is plastic and fake. You would never let a child touch a ming vase today. They would slam it with something, just because they have absolutely no respect for anyone else's property.

I think that is where everybody fits in. Very often children can be like that, yet if they are made aware of a certain required respect and gentleness required, they become, "up to the task."

I have let children handle items that were both valuable and expensive, (Not always at first!) They walk away from the experiece feeling honored. I was the firearms instructor for our troop when it existed and never had a problem, putting an object so powerful in a child's hand. In that case there is an inherant desire and as long as the observe my instructions, so the required respect; they walk away carrying a valuable experience for the remaining years. I've had more serious problems with the adults.

I think the people that took out the time and had faith in my abilities, really added to my appreciation of life. Hey, have a great weekend! Mike

I love your style of autobiographical poetry, your story telling ability and the rhythm of the poem that somehow mirrors the images you describe of the restraunt :) Maria

Good morning,
I loved your memories of what seemed like a wonderful child-hood family favorite. Loved the art-work. Loved the passion instilled. Some of the flow was a little bit off because of some lines being too long. All in all though I think others would enjoy reading it as I did. Bless you. Queenise

I know we talked before, but these tend to be more of a freestyle nature and I enjoy putting in turns into the poems. It is easier read if one treats each stanza individually. Sometimes, reducing the line doesn't convey what I want to get across very well.

I do thank you for the compliments and this review. Mike

This has great style and you did a good job at the rhyme. It's neat how some family experiences just stick and we just have to write about them. Just let it flow. Glad you didn't break the vase, cause the pheasant was enough shock for your dad! Jean

I guarentee you that my Dad wouldn't have paid a cent as he would be dropping me off there to work it off. I enjoyed this review tremendously and thank you for it and the compliments. Mike
