Hi Mike, you've written a very interesting poem. It makes me think. This stanza really impressed me ...

Perhaps those around it can be saved,
by preventing it from becoming fuel;
as loss to lives can remain staved,
though to the owner this can be cruel.

I've actually saw that happen, a fire, if all the elements are there, will double in size and strength every two minutes. When a house is fully involved and the equipment rolls up, it still takes time to set up. They had a hook and ladder acting as a tower truck and when the roof collapsed, that's when they deludged it. After a few minutes, the ground crews went in, as did firefighters in rescue. Luckily no one was home.

I had a luck out myself, it was strange was I woke up and decided for no reason to go out for a smoke and when I opened the cellar door, was hit with a wall of smoke. I figured I had about a minute and walked to the front, not finding anything I walked back and felt the heat. I was able to remove the trash can and remove it. The split second outside and that thing burst into flames. I had tools handy and cut the can and hit it with water mist (oily solvent fire) then a fire extinguisher. If I slept, that would have been it. Funny how things happen in life.

To be honest, I really don't want to write this type of poetry, but feel that I am compelled to. It is very grating on my nerves, but right is right and I just don't see people thinking along these lines and we need to. I have a few more of these and I fear that the delay could result in more death and devestation. Not that I can change the world, but I have to offer what I can. Maybe it effect will be somehow in limiting the degree of the problems. What I have heard and seen lately, scares me a bit, as I feel it isn't for the best of anyone.

I thank you for reviewing this one and the compliments. Your reviewing has been missed. Mike

I really like the comparison of wild fires and terrorism, Mike. It takes more than one person to stop them from spreading and destroying everything in its path. Great job with this poem.

To be honest, I really didn't enjoy making the terrorism as I learned how tough it is to fight wild fires, I had a cousin do it for a year.

These poems have a reverse Durian Grey affect as I only release them if I think it is necessary and it ages me. LOL It's more I wished that I felt that I didn't have to write them in the first place. But it is a pleasure to have them reviewed and I thak you for yours and your compliments. Mike

Reading this work I am prone to think there are as many ideas out there as there are people to write them on a given subject. And the authors notes remind me of long discussions with grown children of my own on the state of world affairs. Thoughts ar well documented and clearly stated by the author whose view ar e thought provoking. We all want peace and this reader thinks with so many phoilosophies in the World, the only way we will achieve it is through prayer. I found this author to be a passionate writer.

What a wonderful review, in my childhood I met many older people that not only wanted to pass on what they think, but why they thought that way. In my mind, prayer and belief in a devine being is paramount to producing a lasting peace. I somethings it is better not to think about ourselves, but what we leave to the children for their future. Unfortunately, the otherside uses them in a manor that they not only don't think about their childrens future, but use that adolescent rage as a tool for them selves and a weapon against others.

I thank you so much for this thoughtfull review and the compliments. Have a great day! Mike K

While I don't agree with your political assessments in the author's note, that is neither here nor there - the rating is for your poem, which is well-constructed and offers an interesting analogy between fighting fires and fighting terrorism. Brooke

My political assessment in this case contain my fears, the wonderful thing about poetry is that one can make a point without that direct tint of liberal or conservative, right or left. While I don't really care to feel that I have to write poems over such matters, they are a nice medium to bring about thought and hopefully, realizations, proposals and sucesses. Not writing it has been very harsh on my conscience which gets worse in time, as I don't see too many other people filling the gaps with their thoughts. Just in my little world, I know what it is like to loose peace, how hard it is to regain it and the sacrifices required to maintain it. This is something, one can not go half-way or pull out from or buy it for that matter. In those cases, peace will be short lived.

I thank you for your review and the compliments. That is one thing that I love about FanStory and its reviewing platform, being able to express one's belief without negatively affecting someone's poetry with a different one.

    God Bless!

This is a very engaging and detailed expressive outpouring of concern. The author holds up an image that is disturbing to consider and troubling to deal with. Fighting enemies that do not ware uniforms will forever be a difficult proposition and the wave of terrorism will be fought on many fronts.

Till the last amen

Mike

Though I don't agree with everything you wrote within your author notes, I feel you are entitled to your beliefs as well as I am to mine. That said, I will say that I loved the comparison of the wild fires to terrorism. Your poem had much to say and your words certainly painted a vivid picture.

That is what I have came to love about poetry, one can express their ideas before the politics enter into it. In this case, with the notes, I can express some of the concerns that I have with the new administration at the same time, I painted my feelings about Bush accurately as well. I thank you very much for your compliments and this review. Mike

Hi Mike
Thoughtful organization, the poems not bad too lol.
Great rhyming scheme.
You have pointed out correctly, that terrorism is not a religious issue, but a political one, stemming from jealousy when islam was the formost cultural and scientific hub of the world.

Well, it has been my understanding that under Islamic rule in the past a lot of culture and science was lost. Though in my notes, I found it necessary to mention some politics, I would not only like people remove the religiousness out of it, but the politics as well. In Pakistans short term past, they have tried to coexist in a peace only to fail at a higher cost them most would find tolerable.

Religion and government is a funny matter to me. While I feel a fundamental belief in God is essential to good rule. Incorporating a religions practice in it makes for an oppresive regeime. I can point to Egypt to this as they are fairly liberal and have many personal liberties, but even with that freedom, many practice the stricter religious practices with out it unduely affecting others. I believe that God smiles with one being able to make their own choices and the struggle of trying to fit Him into their lives as best that they can.

I thank you very much for your sharing with me your thoughts, the compliments and this review. Sincerely, Mike

Absolutely nothing needs to be changed. It was intriguing from the beginning. By far the best I've read all day. It was an eye opener and to the many of us who have fallen asleep on our country. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! I am greatfully appreciative to be thought of in such a way and I will us it as an inspiration to continue. I like using poetic stories to make my points as the ideas are considered over the politics of the matter. I thank you very much for your compliments and this review. Mike K2

Remarkable correlation between a wildfire and the constant flames of terrorism threatening our world today. We must all be vigilant in trying to prevent, contain and eventually put out these persistent flames. Very insightful writing. Zitaca

I actually came up with the comparrison a long time ago as many hold that terrorism no longer affects us, but one of their rallying cries is still for the destruction of the Untited States. What we tend to ignore always seems to come back and bite us. Events of late really has me concerned and apprehensive so I not only wanted us to remember 9-11 but also the causes and how things have improved. Our nation always comes to the aid of other nations. As long as we can, I feel it a virtue that we do.

I thank you so much for your compliments and this review. It is an inspiritation for me to have courage, too. Mike
