Brooke,
what a beautiful tribute to your mother who left you far too soon. Also, I joined this site in September as well, but don't remember the exact date. Met you not longer after and got chewed out quite professionally and won't soon forget it. lol
This was wonderful and I share the loss with you because my dad died when he was only 46. I passed his age a very long time ago and always the thought is in my mind: What joys in life have I not been able to share with him? I'm forced to admit the book I could write to come close to an answer to that question. I'm sure you do that as well.
They never shared in the births of their grandchildren. In my case, my dad never even saw me graduate from high school. The loss never goes away. Thanks for sharing this with us, my friend.

My mother never saw any of my graduations either - what a sad thing for us to share, Reggie. Thank you, my friend. Brooke

What a superb tribute to your dear departed mom- I offer my heartfelt condolences that you lost her early. She must be so proud of you and your prolific and powerful pen!
The presentation is glorious.
The author's notes make the poem more touching.
Lovely work, dear Brooke. Amazing it is only a year you've been here. I cannot imagine FS without your posts.
Smiles,

Brooke,
What a beautiful poem!
And what a great tribute to your Mom.
I love the image you chose, and the entire visual presentation of your poem.
It is hard to pick a favorite part, but I think it would be your last 2 lines.
I really enjoyed your poem.
Great job!

A powerful work. Perfect iambic tetrameter. Good use of enjambment. Great use of alliteration. A superb example of the rispetto form. Extremely poignant last line.

What a lovely way to remember your mother
within this poem that speaks of summer skies
and the thought that as you look up, the same
bright stars are shining down upon you as they
did when you were a babe in her arms.
She will be so proud of you Brooke...

It's hard to believe in just one year you've gotten so good on this site. Best wishes.

Nice work and a very nice tribute to your mother.
I liked the way you started with the star in the sky and transitioned to your mom.
