Methinks it is a lovely poem. Not to mention that "methinks" is a word that would be from the whaling era and it serves to help frame the poem.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, my friend - I'm so glad you like this word, which always sounds old-fashioned and whimsical to me - what a great observation about its appropriateness to the whaling era :-) BrookeT

Methinks that the whale-wisperer knows the true meaning to their songs and why they sing them. Perhaps John Denver knew whwn he wrote his song about whales, but alas we cannot ask him. I suppose like scientist and others we won't ever know for sure. But other than the pure enjoyment that music brings to the soul, does anyone really know why we sing and play the jews-harp, the steel drum or blow on a jug?? mstad55

Absolutely love whales--fascinating and fantastic creatures. I think you're right, some things are best left as a mystery, although the greater mystery to me is why we would sit back and continue to let these wonderful mammals be threatened.

Great poem, Brooke.

Brooke, you've done it again! You seem to come up with the most marvellous pieces of poetry - just like that! I truly am in awe of your talent. This is beautiful.

I have a CD of whale-song which I sometimes listen to as I fall asleep. It is wonderfully soothing. It can calm the fretting mind wonderfully.

Warmest wishes and hugs
Kat

I thank you for the explanation regarding the cinquain form and its originator, and thoroughly enjoyed your poem. I don't know who knows what you ask, but the fact that you ask it brings us that much closer to figuring it out. Great picture you posted with it. I have not yet posted a poem here but I can see I will follow your lead and add a photo to compliment it. it says we should talk about what needs to be changed but im thinking nothing because as it stands now is how i read it when i liked it so changing anything might be more harm than not. and i couldnt agree more with the notion that some things are best left mystery.
take care,
xylok

Neat. Well written, flows well. I didn't see any grammar errors or typos. It was a reminiscent poem for me as I loved learning about whales in 2nd grade science. Great work!

I enjoyed your poem It is fun and expresses beyond its written words. The idea of the whale song and the anology of hearing the fallen tree are thought provoking and I am not sure that we shall ever know the answer, but they are interesting just the same. jeana
