That pretty much covers the topic - any and all possibilities. "The heirs to our world" may have a lot to say but I think mother nature will provide them with her own answers.
Thanks for sharing.

It is a sobering thought. Most of us go about our lives without thinking too hard on what we will leave for the following generations.

brooke,
they will pay dear, won't they? this isn't right. we're only borrowing this world from the children. this is beautifully written. easy to read and follow. imagery is excellent.

I think that is one of the age old questions that is always in the back of your mind, but no one wants to talk about. We are already paying for things that were done in the past. We cannot escape it no matter how much we try. We need to start paying closer attention to what we do now to prevent further issues. If only the lesson did not need to be learned...
You did a great job with this one. At first, I must admit, I took it at face value. Then I realized it was more. I love the way you do that with your poetry:)
Great job!

Thank you, Jaded, for giving it the extra thought - and yes, we are paying for the sins and excesses of our fathers, and we are adding to the debt our children will pay. Brooke

Oh, yes. A different take on inheritance taxes, but an accurate one. I hope we won't be judged as harshly as I think we probably should be. Well written adn thought proboking. This should be published, my friend. Deb

I enjoyed your poem It is truly thought provoking. The truth be said what will our next generation be left with and will they be able to do a better job than we have. Your poem is truly well stated. jeana

As always Brooke, your words can be interpreted in so many ways. I love the play on words and how you leave the word 'pay' open to various meanings. A perfect cinquain. I love it.

The very best! Large statements can be made with just a few well chosen words! You have done it, and in perfect Cinquain form as well.
Your Notes are very informative.
Thank you,

Excellent question, Brooke. As you said in the notes, this could encompass so many different things: nature, politics, financial, even emotional/family ties sorts of issues.
In the last, "our world" would be our small personal worlds (where we make personal decisions that impact our children)that our children are emotional heirs of. I like the deliberate open-endedness of the question. It makes me wonder what my personal legacy will be, both to my descendants and to others in this world. I hope it is a legacy of love, stability and respect for other people.
Thought provoking and excellent! Laura

Laura, I'm so glad you like the open endedness - I got a four because someone did not like that about it. Thanks, Brooke :-)
