Now that is a little bit of refined romance...A la Brooke. What a delightful little offering with a sublime flow, I have to visit you more often friend, my life is hectic at present, loved it.

Hitcher, when my kids were the age of your kids, I spent a lot less time on the computer too!!! I know you have your priorities straight :-) Thanks so much. Brooke

The flower names are lovely for this poem - such an inspiration. The orange sherbet, berries and cream, and satin slippers are my favorites. It's great you Googled to find the old-fashioned flower names. Your author notes always seem to teach me something. One thing I didn't care for was the last stanza. It seemed too heavy to match the lightness of other stanzas, and seemed a bit forced to be able to use those flower names. Love to read you work!

Gorgeous! I was immediately swept away into a nineteenth century cottage garden; I stood, one hand on the stone wall, the other upon the latch of the whitewashed gate, looking into the fields for my lover true...........ah, I could see him, a posy of wildfowers clasped o'er his breast, and a smile upon his lips..........
Sorry, couldn't help myself, thought you'd get a laugh at my vision after reading your wonderful poem!

Hey, the fact that you could imagine a story from this makes my day more than the six. Thank you so much for sharing that with me!! You're so thoughtful, Sara-beth. Brooke :-)

This is wonderful. It is so rainy here, the only thing growing is grass. I thought the italicized words were flowers, but a couple I didn't recognize and again your author notes saved me. Great writing. joan marie

You're welcome, That's what is great about writing about something like this. You research to learn more about your subject. That is often the most fun part for me, the research. jm

A very romantic poem, obviously from a woman's point of view! But never let it be said that men do not share the thrill and joy of romance. Indeed, If I could really write poetry myself, I would communicate a man's response to this lovely, well-written poem. Instead, I will just have to say thanks for the posting.

Eddie - thank you!! I have quite a few guys who read my poems in this vein, though yesterday Donovan let me know it is definitely a chick poem. LOL I'm glad you're in touch with your softer side :-D Brooke

Your rhyme schemes as fascinating and
mesmorizing as the beauty of the scenes
you paint with the rhythm of your writings
that have to come from the heart, a heart
filled with warmth, and with seeing eyes
with the ability to transfer those beautiful
thoughts to all who stop to read your works
of art.
Well done
