This certainly was an education for me in flower horticulture and their names. I guess that's simpler than remembering the scientific botanical labels. You poem was a pleasure to read, Brooke.

I love the common names of flowers - and yes, they sure are easier to remember than all that Latin! Thanks so much. Brooke :-)

Hi,
Very romantic and reminiscent of bygone days. The way I felt after reading it is similar to how I feel after watching Camelot, like I need more fairy tale moments in my life...
I was especially interested in how your use of colorful exotic foods was able to enhance buried longings or desires in the reader.
But my favorite line was the "flower line"-kiss me over the garden gate-what a lovely beginning!
Keep up the good writing!

I guess I gave you my limit of 6's for this month.
I love this! Delightful! I have a great fondness for heirloom and native flowers. I am always trying to some for this climate.

It turns out Thomas Jefferson wrote about the Kiss me over the garden gate flowers :-) Thanks so much for your generous impulse. selectseeds.com is the site that sells all these flowers and others if you're looking :-) Brooke

Monticello has a seed catalog online that I purchase many heirloom flower and veggie seeds from. I think the seeds might come from the gardens there. I don't remember.
If you take a look, there is a history and original illustration in the descriptions. I find it all very fascinating

Thanks for the website...I'll take a look.

skill and brilliance.

If I had a six I'd give it to you for
this outstanding poem. I even recited it aloud
to hear the music of the words. It sounds like
a song, or part of wedding vows. It also has an
"old-fashioned" sound that brings that ache
for loveliness and innocence of an earlier day (that
we've never experienced!). Carolyn

Carolyn, thank you. I'm so glad it sounds old-fashioned as I wanted it to in order to go with the heirloom/antique flowers it celebrates :-) Brooke

I loved this! I've never heard of most of these flowers. Isn't it wonderful that someone is making it their lives work to keep these flowers alive. Your poem brings them to life. It reads like an old-fashioned song. Something like "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do..." I could almost hear a tune as I read it. Great addition to your bouquet of flower poems!

I've never heard of most of them over - I thought he was yanking my chain with the kiss me name :-) I'm so glad it sounds old fashioned as I wanted it to in tribute to the antique heritage of the flowers. Turns out Thomas Jefferson wrote about the kiss me flowers :-) Thanks, Deb. Brooke :-)

How delightful, Brooke, and how cleverly you have embraced the names of so many of these flowers. Your sunny spirit just oozes from this creation. Peter

It was so much fun to learn all these flowers exist - I thought my friend was kidding me at first when he told me he had given flowers with such a cool name to his wife. Thank you, Peter - it's hard not to have a sunny spirit when discovering all these fanciful names. Brooke :-)

At first, I did think the poem was written to me, till I read it! LOL Your spirit, from what I've learnt, is a conquering one, and it costs at times.
