Bobby certainly was a good politician but, he certainly had his personal issues. He certainly wasn't all that moral towards his wife (he and his brother John) They certainly had their share of interludes in the white house that were somehow and for some reason excused and unmentioned in those days. A double life is how it can be explained. Tony

Tony, I only knew his fight for oppressed people - what he was or was not as a husband was between him and his wife.
We have so few politicians whom I truly admire for their beliefs and the policies they fight for - if I had to then eliminate from them the ones with questionable sexual/personal lives, I'd probably be down to nothing, and that's just too damned depressing :-) Thanks, my friend. Brooke

Hi Brooke Your fine poem shows how very affected you were my the shocking death of president's death. You have a clever way of portraying many incidents in your life in the words of a poem. LOL Gaye

Bobby was not President, but I think he would have gone on to win had he not been murdered that night after winning the California Democratic primary. Thanks so much, Gaye. Brooke

Ops having a senior moment of course I knew it was John not Bobby who was president. Cheers Gaye

An excellent rispetto that makes me very sad. I was eleven years old in 1968 and no adult could explain to me what was happening in the world. I was very confused. You capture well how the nation mourned over RFK. Good alliteration in the fourth line, excellent use of the abab ccdd rhyme scheme, and good iambic pentameter.

An excellent poem about a charismatic young man. What a desperate period of time when the days were turned to lead with the deaths of M.L. King and Bobby. Larry

I was born in the seventies, so I have no frame of reference for the Kennedys, other than what I get from you guys who went before.

I've got no love for them, historically speaking, but I thought this was a clean, tight, well-written tribute poem.

"Idealism's light went dark" - that's such a stark and effective line, Brooke, and the depth of your feelings are there to see in this one. A powerfully written piece indeed.

Absolutely love this! The message is so stark yet your notes bring back the hope. I believe that those that could change us for the better are not allowed to live. Think about those that have been killed and what they stood for.
Guess you know that...duh! Great poem!

I am always amazed at how you can find a poem in most everything that happens in your life and around it. I think that is a wonderful gift. Always sad when a person is silenced for expressing views, whatever they may be.

You are so right. So many different happenings can cause the decay of innocence, either slowly or all at one, as in the case of murder of an innocent victim. Another thoughtful poem, Brooke. Blessings, Linda
