adewpearl:
I felt enveloped by atmospheric and visual elements in this poem.
Reminds me of long nights spent laying face up on the grass counting stars and marveling.

Brooke... Congratulations. This was a tough one. I know Rama's work and yours is spiritually inspired, so I'm having a bit of a (time for meditation) moment as to the outcome of these contests. Your work is so timelessly beautiful - I simply wanted to say well done on this honor. Michael.

Michael, contests are always subjective and a crap shoot - my husband was a photographer, so we would go to lots of juried shows - this is long long ago. Even shows where he wasn't entered - I practically NEVER thought first place was really first place and I often would have awarded it to some entry that barely got honorable mention. That taught me early to be happy when you happen to win but never to expect it! LOL Thanks so much. Brooke :-)

Hi there adewpearl ... I missed this one of yours ... and I so love haiku. I see it in the home page with a third place mention. I read all three and don't tell anyone - but I truly thought yours was the best. Maybe they were looking for one that represented nature a little more and the seasons? Never-the-less, I think this was beautiful. Marion.

Marion, I never second guess contests. My husband was a photographer so we went to lots of juried shows. Taking my love for him out of the equation and just looking at the way other photos made out, I hardly ever agreed with who took first, who was honorable mention and who didn't even win an award. I figure if I win something, good for me, and if I don't win, well, so be it! :-) Thanks so much! Brooke

Me too, its a good way to look at it, because then you are always happy within yourself. I get into Story of the Month lots and lots of times but never win, well once! I always feel just honoured to get that far. Especially seeing I never pay much for my stories. The Chinese Pig paid higher, as it was kindly pumped up for me to $1.08, not my doing. I never have enough money! Thank you for your reply. M.

Great haiku! And congratulations on winning 3rd place in the contest. I love the word "obsidian." When I was a child, I used to like to dig holes and discover things -- I found a piece of obsidian in our backyard and kept it for many years.
Anyway, congratulations!

Thank you. I really enjoyed writing this though it seems a million years ago. :-) I appreciate your kind words, Sue, and I loved to dig rocks up back then too - though the treasures in my yard were usually pink quartz. :-) Brooke

This is excellent haiku poetry, Brooke. Two connecting lines and a satori that is a wonderful "ah ha" moment. The artwork isn't needed, but oh how exquisite it is!

Well, it's a Haiku. And a well written one at that.
The thing about Haiku is it's either right - and there's no need to say much about it other than it's a "right" Haiku - or it isn't.
