This was a fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed it--humor, pathos, and all! Only thing to correct is the name of the company that came to clean the carpets. :-) "Stanley Steemer" but I guess nobody cares about something so minor. This was a great story and certainly made me smile.

I think you got this contest in the bag! Amazing, simply amazing. Not only that you weren't injured but everything got done. Nothing stops a supermom! My favorite part is the phone call to your husband. When he insists it couldn't happened, I laughed out loud. Logical people can be so illogical at times of stress. Good luck in the contest.

Hello DJ! Well...you certainly caught my intent to a tee!! I really thought the whole thing happened because I was being so sneaky about the desired outfit! And the conversation is verbatim; we have repeated it so many times over the years! And my huband "logical?" Oh! You have no idea! He was totally convinced - and remained so for far too long - that I could not have possibly done what I said and did do! Thank you for your kind review...and most of all your laughter! dian

Well, I don't know if I would call it "luck", but at least you were alive. This is the kind of dark comedy that one wants to find funny, but can't. Thank God your husband is a patient man. There is an element of luck in the end that "Christine" (a la Stephen King) actually saved your daughter's life and didn't take yours. I guess we have to be grateful for small favors.

The story flows well (you are a professional writer after all), and you work in the dark humor quite well. I wouldn't say it was enjoyable, but it was, ahem, interesting.

Ah Alvin! I am convinced that dark comedy is my life! So ironic that you should mention "Christine." I did, indeed, call that blasted vehicle by that name - but didn't mention it in the offering as well, not too original on my part! I have wanted to share this story ever since it happened...and as to the element of "luck" - well, my not crashing into the column was either that or God or Karma or ??? Something was looking after me for sure that day! For days afterwards I was convinced that the entire scenario happened because I was being so sneaky about purchasing the dress! Oh my! Thank you for your kind review...and watch out for old women driving a 1991 Olds '88!!!

That was a fascinating story and I especially enjoyed your small embellishments which gave it a more humnistic feel.
You were obviously very lucky to have survived such an ordeal and I almost felt like I was there with you.

Wow, what an excellent story! Sounds like an 'Auntie Mame' kind of day, hahaha! (Would have loved to see a pix of you in the infamous outfit, too.) :>) Great ending.

Oh! I still have that too! In fact, I was cleaning out a closet two weeks ago and came upon it. And it still sparkles...but with not as many!!! Take Care! diane

Absolutely wonderful! I loved every word. You held me spellbound...I would have done the same thing...ordered, then worried about the carpet cleaners.

What is even better, is that this is real. your tone is inviting, and I loved the way that you laughed at yourself.

Aw Terry! A woman after my own heart! Thank you so much for understanding my predicament...darn carpet cleaners! And as for laughing at myself, well, if I didn't do that often and well, the altrernative would be to cry, yes? Just so very pleased you enjoyed my offering! diane

If this is a true story, MAN! If it is not, you have one heck of an imagination. This is really fun to read, especially since we know you are ok or the imagined author is ok. Good luck with the contest. I think you have a good chance of winning.
