I thought this was a sad poem that brings up memories of what I'm sure I put my parents through. The last line:
The prodigal dances on.
May be true but many times it's quite the opposite. We children think we know more than we do. Great piece of work.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This one blew me awaY!

Especially liked:Rambling from chest to closet to bed the mother
touches a shoe, wipes a picture, smoothes the spread.
Tears fall slowly, her reservoir emptied by time.

The prodigal dances on.

And the "prodigal dances on ".........

Dear Skye, I enjoyed "The Prodigal Child." The last full verse is especially poignant. An interesting aspect to me was that you never say if it is a young man or young womanwho left. I read it a couple times to determine which, and decided it works for either--thus, the Pridigal CHILD. Clever! Great job!

When I first started to read this poem I was wondering why it had the title it has, but as I started the ending part, I understood why and I kept reading because I wanted to find out about the title. Great poem.

"There was a man and he had 2 sons. The younger one was but a boy, when he took his inheritance, that he might enjoy what life had to offer- -the father waited. . .And in this case the mother as well. The sadness exudes from this post beginning with the freezer burned fatted calf, the cluttered entrance, bitterness of the father and the distraught mother. . .No feasting, no dancing to music, no alleluias to sing, for love it appears has left this home while the 'wild' one dances on with no regard. This reads so well, is descriptive in its sadness, flows well. No spags noted.

Thank you so much (That first scriptural line in this review is from the song entitled "Prodigal Son" it goes on to tell the whole story in song.)

What a sad state of affairs. I would hate to be the one so sad and wanting that all I can do is live in the past. I love the poem.

What a poignant poem, Kathy! It must be hard to bear when one's children don't turn out the way one had hoped. I especially like your closing line. Beautifully done.

This a heart-rending story in a very creative poem. Believe me, I can identify with this. It's not easy to deal with. If this is your experience in some way, it nust help to write aboout it. I think the poem is excellent in every way.

Thank you so much. There is always some truth in whatever we write. Raising children is HARD.

Very well written and very sad. Everyone is weeping for the prodigal son. "Bitterness etching his face the father grays slowly. Rambling from chest to closet to bed the mother touches a shoe, wipes a picture, smoothes the spread" Excellent!!
