Brooke,
I am still catching up on some May msgs in my inbox. I'm sorry for the late review...

This brought tears to my eyes. I felt the love conveyed in this sad cinquain. I can relate somewhat - losing my mother the day before my 19th birthday. I sometimes feel cheated that I don't have a mother in which to share the most important days and people in my life with.

Thank you for sharing this heartrending poem.
Nic

I love this trip down memory lane you're taking me on. I think your late reviews are wonderful - that you bother to do them when I'm no longer paying anything out. Thanks so much for your most thoughtful comments. Brooke :-)

I'm so glad I found this by rummaging, Brooke. I love it for it poetic structure and for the heartfelt ache it reflects. No wonder you savoured every moment of your mothering years. Thank you for sharing this facet of your life. Peter

You're still mothering of course, and I've thought a lot about what it means to you.

Such a lovely tribute to your Mother Brooke. I bet it feels like yesterday since she passed in some ways, yet like a hundred years in others.

I can relate to your poem, as my father died in 1968,when I was fifteen, three years after my parents separated and I am still trying to find out who he was, as a person. I miss him very much and wish I'd had the chance to hear his side of the story.

Yours is a poignant poem and your pain and regret of losing you mother so early in life is clearly evident. Perhaps your capacity to draw from such emotion is what makes you such an amazing poet. Regards, Jan

You're welcome! And what are you doing up? Isn't it late night over there, or am I out by a few hours? :)

I missed this one Brooke but you know what? your mom has been with you since she left the physical world and has watched you grow and blossom and live. This is so very cool. Those on the otherside reach us through our dreams and I truly believe that. And you've done a swell job from the outside looking in so you may have been a motherless child but you've done a swell job being a mom, never forget that.

This is a beautiful poem which I can relate to. My mom passed twenty eight years ago. I always remember because it was right before my wedding and I will be married twenty eight years. Your poem is very well written as always.

How sad to lose your mom right before your wedding - my mom passed away right before my two older sisters gave birth to their first children, so they can always remember how long ago it was by the age of their children. Thanks so much, Brooke

Hi adewpearl
50 years is a long, long time. She must have died quite young. This is poignant piece, done with such grace and with finese. Heart-felt. Marion.

Yes, it was a few months before her 50th birthday, and I was not born until she was 42. Thank you, Marion. Brooke

A poignant poem that touches my heart. My favorite song by Peter, Paul and Mary is "Motherless Child." I used to sing it to my children as a quiet lullaby, but the message is far from that. The poem is great, the message great, and the imagery is great.

When I was in high school my choir sang that spiritual with our German teacher singing a guest solo. I still remember the performance :-) Thank you, Brooke

Beautiful poem, Brooke. You were so young when you lost your Mom. How proud she would be of her talented daughter! Thanks for sharing your Mom with this tribute.

What a sad time of remembrance for you. Losing your mother at such a young age seems so unfair. The imagery in this poem is outstanding. The simplicity of style enhances the poignancy of your work. Well done, Brooke.

Linda, thank you - this was a defining moment in my life that taught me at tender age that life often is unfair - we cannot expect things to go right just because we have done nothing wrong. Many people suffer huge disappointments in life because they truly believe in karma - and karma just ain't happening. Brooke
