Nice tribute to President Lincoln. I am always impressed that you can write poems about anything and this one I thought was nice. I didn't realize about him dying on Good Friday and wondered at your reference in the poem. It is very well done.

Poor Abe. He fought so hard and didn't really get to enjoy what he started out to do. But I love the poem and I'm sure he had alot to do on the other side. Great job.

Thank you - yes, it is tragic that he could not live to enjoy the fruits of his labors. Brooke

Perfect form as always ;-)

Thanks for explaining a bit of our American History, and the background for your poem - it is so enlightening, and appreciated.

I do have a question, however.
Why were there 2 Good Fridays that year?

Thanks for sharing.
Sincerely,
Womanwriter

I'm speaking metaphorically - since Lincoln became a martyr for freedom on that day in 1865, and since he died on Good Friday, it is like there were two Good Friday events that year - his death and the commemoration of Christ's death. Thanks, Brooke

This is a cute little historical poem. I did not know that Abraham Lincoln a good Friday. That last line was a good ending as it can make the reader think

I don't remember where I saw the article and don't remember much about it, but the jist was that Lincoln was seriously ill before the assassination and might have died anyway. Have you read anything about that? Very interesting query and an excellent observation. Rhymeman, the cowboy poet.

Yes, I have read enough to know someone is studying that and perhaps wanted access to the body to prove it, but I don't know much about it. Thanks for your thoughtful review, Brooke

Highly meaningful tanka dedicated to a president who became much loved after his tragic, untimely death. Well done.

Abraham Lincoln has always been my favorite president. His determination to make the United States a good as well as proud country places him on a pedestal in my heart.

I hadn't known that he died on Good Friday. Seems fitting, doesn't it? He truly gave his life for his country.

Thank you for this somber, thought-provoking poem.

You've written a wonderful reflection on a truly great man. Yes, the Author's comments were needed on the Good Friday reference. I appreciate poetry that is an homage to the thinkers and doers that have shaped our minds and our history. Can improve on your beautiful piece.

This was fabulous! What a visual you made. Not the picture, your words. They painted his last moments so vividly. Great piece of work!
