What a great perspective. I can't imagine standing by and watching my son go through all that. She had to have been torn apart. I love the poem.

This is certaonly a perspective that most will not have considered, or at least an empathic angle not often explored. This is a particularly well expressed, fluid poem.

There is great light and dark imagery in this poem. I especially love the line "darkness swept across the land as bleak as Mary's loss". I don't really know much about Easter except that it is about the resurrection of Jesus. Is the holiday itself also about the Passion or do you just think about it personally? Perhaps you could explain what lent is and good friday and all that stuff I see on the calendar. I have no idea what any of that specifically signifies.

Quickly - Lent commemorates 40 days and nights Jesus spent in the wilderness being tempted by Satan as he prepared for his ministry. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday when he rode into Jerusalem and a crowd of people greeted him in triumph. Maundy Thursday commemorates the night of the last supper with his disciples, his washing of their feet, his agony in the Garden of Gethsamene where he awaited his arrest and his trial. Good Friday, the day I posted this poem for, is about his crucifixion, which lasted 6 hours and finally ended in his death. Mary was there to see that - and crucifixion was brutal - not like the electric chair or hanging - people died terribly slowly and painfully. Easter commemorates how three days after the execution people discovered Jesus tomb empty because he had risen from the dead. My daughter, a nanny, just started working for a Jewish couple, and on Wednesday she worked late so they could go to a Seder, and I was explaining Passover to her. I then looked it up to get more details about the Seder meal and the symbolic significance of the foods on the plate - it's too bad people don't know more about the customs of other religions and cultures because they're so fascinating and steeped in history and symbolic significance. Thank you, Brooke :-)

You have caught my heart with this poem.

Good Friday has always been a day of tremendously mixed feelings for me as I comtemplate the atrocities Jesus endured to pay for my sin.

Sometimes when I want to rail against God and cry out that this cannot possibly be His plan, I think of the crucifixion and Mary at the foot of the cross. I am silenced.

Your poem has silenced me once again. Thank you.

Hullo Adewpearl ....

I was very late getting to the computer tonight and have just come across your beautiful poem with an equally lovely picture at the top.
What you have written is similar to the thoughts expressed in my poem "There Stood By The Cross ..."
and I thank you for sharing this with us.
There is, of course, nothing to suggest changing.
With love from .... Nanette Mary.

I'm really pleased to find this poem--I'm no good at commenting on the shorter styles you've written lately; no idea about the technical, sorry. This is a wonderful poem on the birth mother's aspect, which is never focused on. It's a beautifully worded, complete thought--a lament-- and 'Mother mild' was very apt. Appropriate and lovely poem, Brooke. Cheers.

Lexie, thank you - and you really never need to care about knowing the technical aspects of a poem - I get more than enough input from people who know all about the meter and rhymes. I care far more about whether my poetry resonates with people, says something they can feel or think about, care about. I appreciate your review!! Brooke
