Hi there adewpearl.
This is perfect. Great presentation, good author's notes for understanding and the words used to create this are very apt. Well done on this one. Marion.

Comment from Lady & Louis
Good poem, Brooke: the use of "before" reads almost as "in front of" rather than as "before it happened", which not only turns Time around but gives a very sharp image indeed. (The turning of time seems apt in this instance; that isn't a criticism.)
Trivia: the kings of England and France perpetuated the ritual for centuries afterward, in commemoration. At least, they mostly did. Louis's father used to "pull a sickie" on that day as soon as Louis was old enough to have to deputise for him. Louis was wholly unimpressed, at that age (he'd only have been eight at the most) with having to get that close to the smelly feet of the poor! The giving out of Mandy Money, still done by the Queen now, is the modern survival of the ceremony.

Yes, I had no idea about that whole Queen thing until I was doing research for this poem - how interesting! And it says back in the day, the Sovereign even washed feet but that ended with King James, I think. Tell Louis I say Happy Easter to both of you and Miss Katie :-) Brooke

Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem. Modern Man is in need of a lesson in humility. Very good imagery and descriptive scheme.

Excellent poem. You manage to summon up in only a few words what happened that day two thousand years ago. I love the simplistic of your poem. This is a good poem for Easter

Do you ever wondered what effect the church of Jesus Christ would have in this world if we all actually lived out the humble love He demonstrated?
I know you serve the poor by helping feed them, and that is a great example of His humility. But for most of us, live is consumed by self-interest. I know mine is, and I'm not proud of that.
You have made me consider many things today.

Today was the second Saturday of the month, which is my day for preparing and serving a monthly community meal at a church in a poor neighborhood - it's always my favorite Saturday - such fun we have. I wish I could tell you I was making some sacrifice. :-) Thanks so much, Brooke

This is a very excellent poem! It has a nice flow to it, and I love the line, "with death left in defeat". Wonderful job and good luck in your further work.

I love that verse, "..to love one another as I have loved you." Your poem is so beautiful. The word "knelt" is the key to its lovely imagery. As all your work, this is excellent in writing and content.

How neatly you present the idea of the greatest server being the greatest leader, Brooke. On the whole, it seems to me that women make better servers than men. Perhaps it arises from their maternal attributes. No man should be too proud if he contemplate how humble Christ was. Peter

Peter, yes, if Christ could serve, surely no man should put himself above it :-) Thank you, Brooke

Thank you for writing about Holy Thursday; the beginning of the most important event in the Christian calendar. I loved your little poem. Am so glad that you are writing about the death and resurrection; my poem was recognized and so that was a blessing. Wishing you a peaceful and loving Easter Day filled with love.
