Hi Brooke

Ooops, touching on another world issue! Can't seem to get them to stop though ... I suppose all we can do is keep the pressure on. Well done, anything that highlights the whales plight, and brings awareness, is a good thing. I learnt here that the whales feed on krill, which is something I have never heard off. And as for your poem evoking another memory for me ... a more humerous one on the whale itself ... I can recall my partner of fifteen years teasing me when I jumped out of bed in the mornings by saying out really loud 'thar she blows'!! Why? Because I had finally given up smoking and put on a lot of weight, and looking from behind, no doubt it reminded him of a whale!!! Not funny, but the weight went after a year and sadly he was killed in a helicopter accident twelve years ago. I told you your poetry brings back memories for me!!! I enjoyed. Marion.

Marion, I am so sorry to hear about your partner - what a way to go! Thank you for sharing your story - I love to know that something I've written as evoked a memory for a reader - it makes writing worthwhile to connect that way. Thanks for your great review, Brooke

Wow, I really like this one, it is a perfect septolet. When I think of harpoons ready to kill I think of a spear-like object balancing in the hand of a whaler...so I guess balancing is another word you could use.

Yicks! This makes me what to don my Greenpeace coveralls again and get out the old Zodiac. Save The Whales! This is whale watching season here in Sonoma, Ca. A timely posting. Good for you! Much Love, Dean

Hey Brooke, did you see on the Animal Channel they ran a season following the Sea Shepherds. Now those are some crazy heros. Anyway, check it out if you haven't.

An interesting and very unique
septolet. You have married in
the juxtaposition of the two hunters;
on the one hand, the whale diving for
his krill; and then the human hunter
waiting for the whale to surface,
waiting for the kill.
Another one of your as usual fine
poems.
Well done

Not a pretty picture, you paint here, Brooke. The innocence of nature, assailed by the ignorance and greed of man. There is shocking contrast in the two images. Very thought provoking poem. Good work.

I love this poem and the picture. I cringe when I read about people killing these magnificant creatures. I love them too much. Great job.

Whales are absolutely fascinating mammals. I am fortunate enough to be able to watch them here in Alaska. The only people who can legally hunt them are natives under the subsistance laws. They live off them just like they have for hundreds of years. Too bad other countries don't have the same laws.

Fabulous as usual, Brooke. :)

I think you played by the rules as you laid them out here. I don't know that I "liked" this poem, but I'm not going to ding you for that, either.

I'm getting cranky in my old age, I think.

You've really taken to the septolet form :-). This manages to create the image and make comment at the same time; two types of hunter, two types of weaponry, one singing while it lives, the other whistling (probably) while it kills for profit ... Both natural? :-)
