Powerful!
I'd not heard the legend prior to reading this poem,
although I had heard some of the bits about the dogwood blossoms.
You did a great job of putting it into a lyrical form that was perfect for the telling.
A great piece for the season!
Thanks for sharing, Brooke!

This is a true classic, I would put this in the local newspaper for Easter. I can't even express how great this is. This is your chance at history.

Just a perfectly written piece of Easter Poetry. I never liked the Dogwood tree because of it's fluffy seeds, They coat everything. But, that would Jesus' love would it not? Coating everything like the Dogwood seed. Beautiful poem!

A fantastic poem, and an education too. I have always like the dogwood tree, just because it's a beautiful looking tree. I never heard the legend of it until now. How coool is that. And coming at an appropriate time in the season too. I'm sure this will, or should make it to the all time best list. Have a great day. Mike

Mike, thank you for your lovely comments - it's been my favorite tree since I was a wee little one and it grew in my yard. :-) Your generous rating is most kind and appreciated!!! Brooke

Beautiful, Brooke.
This poem flows so smoothly.
No matter how many times or different forms of writing that I hear this story told, it never gets old. This is a wonderful expression of the ageless legend of the dogwood.
I LOVE how your poem ends with words of endless hope.
I have no suggestions. Simply beautiful.

Hi Brooke,
Wow, a powerful poem! You did a fantastic job.
Thank you yet again for the author notes. I can't quite narrow down my favorite stanza, but this one, at the end wraps the poem together so well:
And still their cross-shaped blossoms bloom,
reminding us each May,
compassion triumphs over hate,
and hope outlives dismay

Oh, my gosh, Brooke, this is absolutely the finest thing I have ever read. You will never top this and neither will anyone else. Not only is the subject the best, but your rhyme is beyond perfect. What more can I say? pat

I had read of the legend of the dogwood. I have never heard it as well expressed as you have done it here. The meter and rhyme were superb. Your poems have such a nice flow and are so easy to read. This one ends with a nice message.

Simply exquisite, Brooke. You have encapsulated the Legend of the Dogwood extremely well even without mentionin the underside of it petals and the crown of thorns at its center. My husband and I planted two dogwoods in our yard twenty years ago, and when they bloom, their beauty is breathtaking to behold. A beautiful rendering. diane

Thank you so much, Diane. Are your dogwoods white? My absolute favorite is when people have both white and pink trees and they intertwine. Valley Forge National Park has white and pinks growing next to each other, and it blows me away. :-) Thanks so much for this most generous review, Brooke
