Brooke, this is incredible! Your words spin this legendary tale in such an eloquent and memorable fashion. Don't think I'll forget this soon. Love the rhyme and soft smooth flow of this. It really is beautifully told. Thanks for sharing.

What makes writing beautiful to read are poems like these. This is the kind of poem that is certain to inspire others to use symbols in a way they'd never imagined. It's the sign of a great poet.

I've heard the legend but can't say exactly when or where.

Your quatrains are lovely tribute. It was a pleasure to read. Annelisa

P.S. I saw a women with two dogwood saplings yesterday and told myself I need to plant a few. Maybe I'll pick one up tomorrow.

We have a dogwood in our front yard that survived an ice storm in 2007. We had snow, thick ice, and no power for four days. The trees' snapping was so loud it sounded like gunshots. The ice broke a large portion of the trees, including the dogwood, which was split from the top to about halfway down. We were sure it would die out, but it's still budding!

I have heard the story you have presented, and it is one of my favorite tree legends. You have done well putting in poem form. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi brooke,

A beautiful retelling of the legend of the dogwood. They're one of my favorite trees. But they're blooming now down here & how lovely they are!

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful Easter message with us!

Hi Brooke....this is an amazing poem. I did not know that about the dogwood petals and when I read your notes it gave me goose bumps. Well written with a good rhyme. Well done....blessings....chey

Dear Brooke, This is just an outstanding poem! It is a gorgeous poem! It is a poem extradinaire! The meter, rhyme, precise and original wording, clear message--all are there. I enjoyed your poem and learned something, too. I will think of it this spring when the dogwoods bloom.

This one took me back to my childhood. I remember this story as told by mom. We had rows of dogwoods along our front drive and each Easter had our family picture there. I loved seeing the story retold in verse.

An intriguing poem, and your author notes were great - I hadn't heard of this before, so well done for bringing it to life in this poem. Good rhyme as well.

This is a fantastic poem, Brooke. Not only well written with wonderful flow and rhyme, the symbolism of the story you have told has been done so beautifully in poetic form. I actually learned something from this poem also. A beautiful tribute to this special season. This would be a great poem to put on all the church programs they pass out of Easter Sunday morning. Exceptional in message and how well it was written. Joyce
