Hi Brooke
This is the second poem I have just read of yours and I am enjoyed both of them tremendously ... to the point of considering sixes in each. But I had better keep them for your super-best and for short story! I grew the dogwood tree in my big herb garden and treasured the tree. I knew it was the one used for the Cross but I could not remember the details re the colours of the petals, which would quite right. I didn't know they were once talled than the mighty oak. Another very good poem, the poetry I am reading of yours at the moment is so interesting, and I like the link of learning which the poems are giving me. I an a real fan of poetry that tells a story - always have! Marion.

Beautifully, beautifully done.
I had heard the story before but not like this.
Your perspective of it and your own personal touches just made it even better.
This is wonderfully done. :)

I'm so glad you liked this introduction to the legend - while I cannot take credit for the basic legend, I did try to put it into satisfying poetic form :-) Thank you, Brooke

This is excellent, Brooke. You should have used it as a "Story in a Poem" entry, I think it would have placed well. It is a very thought provoking piece with a wonderful message. Thank you for sharing. :)

An excellent poen, adewpearl. The legend as you have described in your poem does indeed exist, although there is no apparent biblical basis for it.

I love your closing couplet. This reminded me of Terry Brooks' Shannara novels, and the life tree of the elves, symbolising the life and the evolution of their race. The man stole many ideas from Tolkien, but that doesn't (for me) stop his books being better stories, ones that captivated my teenage mind and helped inspire me to write.

Mike

PS: Apologies for going off on a tangent there :-)

What a wonderful tradition and a beautiful picture of the dogwood trees. I think you are multitalented within the arts. Your presentation always adds to and not destract from your written work.
