This is just wonderful. The rhyme and meter are not beneath your standards either. I read and reread for both pleasure and not to take you for granted. Of course, it is perfect, right down to the punctuation.
I particularly liked your final words..."and hope outlives dismay." I certainly hope so.
I love Dogwoods and I love this poem.

Very interesting story. I'd never actually heard it before, but you did an excellent job in telling it this way. We don't have too many of these around here, not sure why. They are pretty though. ;)

They are gorgeous - so you have magnolias? They bloom at the same time - nothing more gorgeous than a yard filled with both of them :-) Thanks so much, Brooke

~L~ I'm not sure, I think a few people plant them around their homes but so far I haven't seen much blooming yet. The trees are starting to bud, and the small weeds are turning green, a few of them have tiny yellow flowers but that's about it so far.

You never cease to amaze me with your ability to write such beautiful poems. I love the dogwood tree. It is quite beautiful. This poem was wonderful. I especially enjoyed the ending lines of your poem: compassion triumphs over hate,
and hope outlives dismay.

Oh my dear, I had tears in my eyes. This is a wonderful tribute to the legend of the dogwood tree, and brings great honor and glory to our King! Great job, and thank you for this!

Thank you Brooke, for this beautiful poem. And thank you, also, for your most informative author's notes. I would suspect that many learned something today from reading your notes. But the true learning and the true joy is gained from reading carefully each word of this marvelously written poem. Your format and rhyme is sublime. Lyla
