I'm a huge rocker, but when introduced to Miles Davis, I became an instant addict. Not pushing, just encouraging. Start with his album, "The Birth of the Cool". It's "top-shelf" and timeless. Thanks so much for your review! Sue :-))

This is a nice tribute to a musical legend. I've listened to Miles Davis and I like his sound. You handle the free verse form very well. Nice progression and the slangy last line would have been pure Miles.

So COOL that you play Miles often when writing! Thanks for sharing that. I opened up the poem with the words, "Two notes" because his sound is SO unique that if a piece of music comes on and I suddenly hear a couple of notes from a trumpet, I can tell it's him. Amazing how his interpretation can be heard and cannot be mistaken as another. Your Sixer is SO appreciated!! From one Miles lover to another, it means even more. You have captured Davis' style in your poem--I will share it with my son, who plays the trumpet when he's not working as a Disney sound engineer. I enjoyed the dramatic picture you chose and the alliteration of "s's" you used, along with the strong title you created.

This gets a 5 just for being about Miles! Seriously though, this is a cool free verse tribute to an icon of jazz. It's fitting that it doesn't follow any particular form...just like Miles himself. Very apt descriptions of Miles - aloof, rule breaker, "Trumpet, sun glasses, silk scarf" (he was well known for his sense of fashion). Loved the lines:
Blowing horn and minds
Soft, then loud
with riffs of bliss
Incidentally, the name of the album is "Kind of Blue" not "Kinda Blue." If you want to listen to a real mind-blowing Miles album, check out "Bitches Brew." That album was so far ahead of its time, it's scary.

Great review! Thanks so much! Yes, I LOVE "Bitches Brew"! WAY ahead of its time! Thanks much for the correction on my spelling of Kind of Blue. You are right. I've only been listening to it for years! HA! Hey, thanks for highlighting those lines you like, too. There is an awesome documentary of Miles with him being interviewed and it goes throughout his life story. Called "The Miles Davis Story". It's ace! Leaves nothing out. It was cool. I can listen to blues and enjoy, I've been to Beale street[apparently the birth place of Blues] They do an awesome plate of ribs there too, ha ha.
