What vivid descriptive detail you have included here in this lovely poem, Brooke. My cross was black-draped when service began and was revealed to show a glorious cross resplendent with white Easter lilies. You've captured your memories so well in this homage to the cross done in perfect rhyming quatrains. Lyla

Hi Brooke Your poem has made me remember so many things about Easter when I was a child attending a convent. The nuns got us very involved with the Easter ritual. Thanks for reminding me, I may come up with a poem. Lovely memories Thanks Gaye

This does sound like a lovely tradition.
My favorite stanza is here:
I remember that people with gardens
carried their blooms with especial pride,
as they processed down the center aisle,
asplash with color, but dignified
I'm glad you shared this with us. : )

Hello again, Brooke. I've been away from fanstory for a few days, but I'm back.
This poem is a wonderful way to start my week. I'd read stories about this ritual, but I've never seen it done. You have brought a colorful, joyous picture to my mind, and I thank you.
The symbolism of the brilliant flowers covering the black cross is stunning. I hope someday I can partake in such a ceremony.

That does sound like a celebration ritual. Sometimes churches tend to be to somber and I feel the people should rejoice for what sacrifice was made for us. joan marie

Well, church is darned somber on Good Friday, but that makes Easter all the more joyful. :-) Thanks, Brooke

Boy do I remember those fish stick Fridays!!!! Things have changed so much. I don't always think for the better. Still think women should wear dresses and hats. But I am old fashioned that way. I can remember in school we would have an hour of silence at lunch on Good Friday. jm

This is a wonderful memory! I wish I could have been there. To me, this is the Easter message: into our lives, a little "color" will come, as long as we believe. That it was acted out, touches the soul, brings belief to those who hedge, and reminds us that light and life walk hand in hand.
Beautiful!

I would love to have seen such a sight. You have described it well in this piece. Amazing what a bit of color can do, especially on such a special day. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

Brooke,
You seem to have a wealth of images from which to draw when writing. I enjoy these personal glimpses into who you are and what has shaped you.
I thoroughly enjoyed the reading and have no suggestions for change or improvement.

"The Easter Cross" is a beautifully written quatrain poem. It has perfect rhythm and rhyming from beginning to end. The beautiful colors do make a difference. Well done.
