that is so true. no poem has ever created a world of peace. that is because when rulers or governments fight war they do not wish to promote peace and if any peace is promoted it is crushed. even then some poets may find it hard to look at all cultures with the same level of kindness. so yes i believe as you do that no poet has ever been able it make this world a world of peace with poetry.

This is very nice, Brooke. If you had entered it in the contest to write about poetry, it would have had a good chance to win. You're right about poetry's limitations. "Poems are made by fools like me..."

Sally, that contest didn't even enter my head - the vast majority of what I write has nothing to do with contests, which frankly, are usually just a headache! LOL Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments, Brooke :-)

I like this poem. It has a very thought provoking message. It has a wonderful flow, and a delightful tone. The picture goes beautifully.

No truer words have been said. And if any words ever hold the magic to do so, then God will come down and bless us all. Thank-you for sharing this with us.

Brooke - And don't you know it ... world peace is ether that evaporates at the thought of it. Nicely written but you tore that hope away from me. I will never look at a poem again as our answer to solving our problems. I am so disillusioned. I guess if your poems won't do it then it'll have to be one of my stories. I wish. C

Hey, Charlie, if you write the story that brings on world peace, I will give you a six for it!!! :-D Brooke

Six-stars? Hell, I want the Nobel Peace Prize.

I already used the Peace prize up on two other reviewers who made the same joke as you - by the time I got to you I was only willing to offer six stars. LOL

And yet a man could argue
That no-one's really tried.
Once, and only once, society's been pryed
from guns and bombs and violence
As tools of one-way peace
And written poems in the silence
Will the ceasless, cease.

well, young man, you are young and full of spunk - I suggest you start trying and then when you are awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature all in the same year for causing world peace through poetry, I fully expect you to send me an invitation along with a ticket to Norway!!!! Brooke

    Sure thing.
    I'll adress it

    To Brooke (off Fanstory)
    Philidelphia (The nice bit)
    America.

Hopefully this will conincide with my nobel prize for uncovering the secrets of the universe...I hope to stumble upon them while taking a stroll.

So true -- there is no poem created which shares a world existing in peace. This place of beauty lives within each of us. Past the heartaches -- past the sorrows -- past hope for all tomorrows -- there is a peace within where we can rest in God's good company.

Peace and enlightenment

Hi Brooke....the message in this piece is amazing. We poets can do a lot to make others feel better or scare them of make them smile but no matter what we say it won't bring world peace. Exceptional poem....blessings....chey

If only poets ruled the world, then maybe there would be peace, but then again - nothing would get done (LOL). At least poets can be the conscience of mankind.

You're so right - I wouldn't keep on writing if I didn't think we had a purpose. Still bothers the heck out of me, though, that the people of the world just keep slinging those arrows at each other. :-) thank you, Brooke
