I often used to wonder what happened to my balloons after the inevitable happened and they escaped. I always like to imagine that they went to far and exciting lands, not just get tangled up around random lampposts like all those other people's balloons I saw :)

This was a fun read, and I really like your notes. I have so much fun meandering through Fanart Review looking for artwork. A few times I have logged on for inspiration and am rarely let down.

Great job Brooke.

I am trying to clear my massive backlog by dipping from back to front and back again - unless I see one of those trails to the next in a sequence, then I follow the chain. I think some have been dumped for being in there too long, so I am trying to avoid losing too many more.

this was a brilliant poem and i could just imagine a child forgetting to hold on tight to her or his balloon and finding it is know floating way above her or his head into the beyond.

look forward to reading more.

I believe that you could be titled the Material Girl for, you do write of many material things and topics of interest and I do not mean to be negative about my given title to you. Yu have a way of giving life to material things and I respect and enjoy that about you. I really liked this one about the balloon; we can all relate. tony

Tony, thank you, and I don't take the name negatively at all.
I actually took a fascinating course in grad school on material culture - I'm quite honored :-) Brooke

Excellent poem adewpearl. I am reminded of my adopted sister and how she is enjoys setting a balloon free in memory of her mother. It is quite wonderous to watch a balloon as it escapes.

How lovely, and how cleverly composed, Brooke! Your rhyming is excellent, as is the metre, and I particularly enjoyed the line, 'The gravity that I imposed'. That's such a unique way of looking at the string that tethered the balloon. Peter

Some people let the balloon go, but it is the most interesting thing in the world to see a child's look (even if it is the last) as it slips through their fingers for the great escape.

I enjoyed this poem and it is well written and I love that postulative nature about this one. Hey! Isn't poetry a lot like those ballons?

Brooke, I somehow skipped over reviewing this one...
until now. Bubbles and balloons... quite the bout of childhood nostalgia you've got going there! Your quatrains were flawless as usual and your poem was one that took me back many years...
Thanks for sharing!

Ah, those red ones, they get all the personality! They must have been at the front of the Character Queue. And all the time we thought that we owned them. Foolish us :-)

In school when I was very young we watched a movie (or should I say "film strip") about a kid holding a red balloon. The film followed the balloon on all of it's adventures, and for some reason I always remembered it. Your poem made me think of it.
