"Sweet Imperfections". Those two words alone sum up this lovely, endearing poem. You're great at expressing the simple joys of life, the beauty of nature and, well, just the basic niceness of things (woefully generic term, but fitting :-)). You made me smile.

Mike

Mike, I'll settle for "nice" as a description of many of the things I choose to write about - I do so prefer them to the angst-ridden, misery-driven, I want to slash my wrists poems that abound! LOL thanks, Brooke :-)

Oh those valenitnes, I have a whole drawer full of them. Along with mother's day cards and birthday cards, great piece. Thanks for sharing another piece of the past with us. A nice stroll down memory lane.

Those are some of the best things we ever receive in life I think are the art gifts from our children. This is very well done. Bravo

Oh, Brooke, this poem is ever so endearing.

It's those homemade Valentine's Day cards that melt our hearts. Moreso, than any chocolate or flowers.

Your poetry has a way of melting the readers' heart.

Thank you for posting, Brooke.

Brooke, I know what you mean... I still have tons of things Danny gave me that he made when he was little. The other day I ran across a sweet memory of my niece when she stayed with me one day. She must have been about four or five and we fell asleep on the couch. She awakened before I did and I had a big box of shoes at the bottom of the steps in the basement. She proceeded to pull them out and organize them all along each step with notes reading "match" or "don't match." I cried when I found it. She's a teenager now. A few days later, I found a cartoon with a love note from her brother, Drew, who is two years older, that read, Aunt Penny, I love you. I never see them anymore and my memories of them can dance away the saddest thoughts. Children and pets love unconditionally and are our saving grace sent down by God.

Love,
Penny

ps i love your post! lol!

Those long ago treasures are the best of all, aren't they, Brooke? What joy to remember the tiny fingers that so carefully spread and smudged the paint, and tended the delicate lace. So sweet to recall the hugs and delights in their eyes as Mom received their priceless creation with pride that only a mother can know. Thanks for jogging the memories!

Another nice image of childhood from a mother's perspective. I like this new theme. I'm not sure you need the last line, it seems telling, but still it holds the rhythm of the poem, so what do I know?

The last line is part of the minute poem form - I would have to have a different last line there if not that last line. Thanks so much for a warm review, Brooke

Great poem. Perfect description of a child's valentine. It brings back thoughts of the ones I received through the years from my son when he was just a child. Some of which I still saved. Your artwork choice was also perfect. Good job.

When little, our children are all budding master painters! :-D

Best presents ever are the handmade imperfect ones from the kiddies. I have kept everything. My seventeen year old thinks I'm silly for keeping his stuff, but notices when I move them. Go figure! Wonderful poem that sparks memories.

Hey, he will love that you kept the stuff 10 or 20 years from now once he is a dad :-) Glad you share these memories with me. Brooke :-)

These expressions of love from our children's early years are more precious than any gems. Wonderful expression of the imperfections and how much you value the card in spite of them. Perfect form and rhymes, very nicely crafted.
