Trying to get to grips with the many hidden areas of fanstory, have stumbled across yet another of your great pieces of verbal artwork - lovely as usual and personal so a greater treasure and better pleasure. Our walls are also festooned with like masterpieces from our two young grandchildren - and they look for them - and remember them - on their visits though they're some 300 miles down south in that foreign land called England - strangely enough their mother's (our daughter) place is tidy as she so kindly sends them all to us - for their granny to enjoy - reason I was looking at this site was to view what counted as humour (our spelling - and we were first) - after having received the accolade of being "recognised," with rosette as proof, for my odd ode "Sir Lancelot" - so getting somewhere albeit slowly - now must close, run out of prose - best wishes Brad.

My walls are covered with my children's art even though my son is now 30. LOL I'm so glad you enjoyed this blast from the past. I can't wait for grandchildren so I can get new stuff ;-) Thanks so much for reviewing. Brooke

I have an art gallery on my refrigerator. We just did some painting last night. I can see where they would become treasures and "not for sale" . This was another nice poem.

He is putting out about 10 a day. He loves to draw, and at 7 he can already draw better than I can.

you can't save 10 a day for years - but you know the ones that touch your heart the most - I bet he is one cutie pie!!!! :-)

    He loves Superman.
reply by the author on 18-Feb-2009
oh, lots of superman pictures, just like my son did lots of spaceship pictures - :-D
what a great age your son is - not that 29 isn't a great age, too - but at 29 my son is in a whole other state far away and not around to entertain me nearly as much. LOL
I hope you call your mom :-D
reply by prodigal on 18-Feb-2009
Of course I call my mom... Sometimes. I didn't grow up with her. My granny raised me. She passed when I was 16. I got to know both parents as an adult.

my father's grandmother raised him - I never did find out why. but he sure loved her and the way she spoiled him :-)

Wow. I loved this! I've been afraid of reviewing poetry, because I really know nothing about it. While that is certainly still true, I found this poem to be easy to read, very descriptive and the cadence perfect. I am envious of how you are able to rhyme with what seems like such little effort.

Great job.

I don't believe in esoteric poetry that intimidates people who have no idea what it's supposed to mean - I appreciate your telling me what you did!!! Thanks so much also for your most generous rating :-) Brooke

I love this! My fridge door is decorated by artwork by me grandkids now, and it's just as precious as the ones put away so long ago.

I love the crayon-bright background, too. You have captured the innocence of childhood drawings in lines like these:
" see you've noticed how the art
has plentiful supply
of flowers sprouting from the grass
and rainbows in the sky."

Wonderful!

EVerything works in this poem. Meter and rhyme...a nice rolling beat. humor carries it off nicely. You tell of children's art. I love the image of the rocket, with the flag that is sometimes here, sometimes there. It reminds me of my grandchilren, who draw the same thing over and over. All that might change is color, placement, acutrements.

well done. a joy to read.

Brooke,
I have found I enjoy these lengthier poems of yours, like "Recollection." You are quite the weaver of tales and you seem to thrive with a little wiggle room.
My children are grown, college age now, but this really took me back!
Thanks for that!
Lynn

This is lovely Brooke!

I think I may take this to the elementary school Art show. The latest fundraiser is to take one each child's pictures that they made at school, mat and frame them and sell them back to the parents for about $50!

I promised my daughter (the lone elementary child in our family) that together we could out any mat and frame she liked at Michael's if there was something she wanted framed.

Thanks for the touching poem.
Sharon

If that isn't the cutest idea to raise money!!! If you use my poem out in the world, please just put my actual name with it, which is Brooke Baldwin. :-) Thank you :-) Brooke

Well thank you Brooke Baldwin :)

Actually I don't think I should take it because it is a marketing firm that runs it and I wouldn't trust them to give you due credit for it. I would have sought official permission though to show this, or any other work here, to anybody.

Dear Brooke,

This was a lovely read and so descriptive of childrens little pieces of art.
Often my nieces, nephews or one of my god children have drawn me a great picture, I always treasure them.
As a child I would draw and colour for hours, I took it all very seriously snaping at my younger cousin Micheal "People dont have green faces" we laugh about it now.
My niece gave me a picture just last week and in it she had drawn her mum with a green face ... I laughted to my self as it took me back to my snaping at Mike, this time as the adult I said the correct thing "Oh, thats lovely sweetheart"

Kind regards
Steve.

Ps - we spoke of the snow earlier this week, for the first time in years it is really deep Brooke, London has come to a standstill...I do not understand why...is the modern man work shy (lol) in the 1960s snow feel often, and life continued...oh well I ma getting old.

Others from your city have been writing about the snow - it is amusing to think of you people who stood up to the blitzkrieg brought to your knees by several inches of snow!
Thank you so much for your generous review and for sharing your own memories and experiences - yes, I've had a few green-faced artworks in my assortment too! :-) Brooke
