So honest and true Brooke! War is a place when people die for no reason. It is not needed and very unessacry lmao I cant spell today. We as people unite to protect each other but what are we fighting for?

Quite often soldiers simply end up fighting to stay alive and to protect each other - and the people who declared the wars sit back in their comfy offices safe and sound! Thank you, Brooke
Comment from Gramma Kathy
This poem is sad and terribly true. I agree, those who answer the call to fight for country ought to be honored, but that honor comes at an awfully high price.
Your choice of colors is perfect for this somber piece, and I like the way the rhythm seems to march. Very fitting.
As usual, very well done.

yes, they are so brave and filled with integrity, and then they get blown to bits. Thank you, Brooke

Very different from the one I've just read on childrens art. The abruptness of these lines lend them power, especially, of course, in that final stanza.

I like the way the minute poem form creates this sort of rhythm and thought it appropriate to this subject. Thank you, Brooke

Bravo. Soldiers are such a special breed of people. Thank you for posting this poem and reminding us of their character and possible fate.

This reminds me that the only real reason for war is greed by one side or the other. My sister calls it a pi--ing contest, and I believe it. You penned a fine piece on the subject, the word use is great and the flow is awesome. How I wish it was a foreign subject to our minds though.
Sincrely,
Curt

I disagree. I think death IS defied by the simple expedient of FACING it.
It comes to you regardless, but bravely choosing to put yourself in its path is defiance.
(I had to find SOMETHING.)

As a vet, I can say nothing but thank you for keeping in mind those that have given the "ultimate sacrifice" for this great nation. Gotta love you for that and that alone. Kiss, Kiss, Dean

I guess a minute poem takes a minute to read. Though the poem maybe read in sixty seconds, the reader can enjoy this one for a lifetime, for it is profound and memorable.
The ending is sharp in its message.
Brooke's poetry is not like a box of chocolate, for the Fanstory reader knows what he/she will get -- perfection (cliche, I know, but oh so true).

Indeed, death by war holds neither glory nor dignity, just a realisation that all the rest was show. A sobering poem, Brooke. Effectively chosen words, and I like the contrasts between each stanza.

Nothing prideful or pretty about war, that's for sure. And the only thing that gains is the Grim Reaper himself. Your poem is well written with no spags noted.
