Jan,
wonderful yet painful memories fill most books we write. This is no exception, huh? Seeing the birth of a grandchild is a wonderful experience, but the pain is a shared experience as well. Great story.

I enjoyed this. What a wonderful idea to write a book of poems for your grandaughter. It will be a priceless treasure to her. I especially liked the contrast between
twenty-six hour hell
and
daughter from heaven.
Thanks for sharing.

I love haikus and think it is wonderful you are including them in your book. I particularly like this first one.It seems to have a balance, a kind of symmetry, that is somehow lacking in the second. The syllables are the same, so it is a perfect haiku, but it doesn't resonate quite as well. Maybe the 'exhausting delivery' is redundant of 'twenty-six hour hell. Something like 'fearful mom and grandmother', instead? mslyla

Sounds like all of the girls in your family are daughters from heaven at some point or another. Mainly, from what I've come to learn, they are heaven sent at delivery when it always seems to be a close call

Congratulations Jan. And to your daughter. 26 hours, wow!. I like both of the poems. And yes they do go together nicely. It ties the pleasure and pain of child birth together that you women go through. Dogz
