Really great! It's easy to get lost in a good sports game. The cares of the world are set aside for the duration.
Very succint, yet the message is crystal clear. Good job!

Sometimes we do need the activities of other people to rekindle our lowering flame. It was my pleasure to read your poem. thank you for writing.

You're right - we can't be the one doing it all for ourselves - sometimes being a spectator and rooting someone else on is just the thing! Thanks, Brooke

Hi Brooke,

If just for a moment we can escape life's frustrations and pressures, then sports is indeed a valuable addition to whatever community needs the boost. I have waxed and waned on the subject of professional sports, but I remember well the Superbowl a few seasons back when my now hapless Seahawks managed to appear. They didn't do well, but that's beside the point. For those four hours, we had hope. Nice job.

Ray, I often wonder why people opt to think paying bills and going to work is real life while the enjoyable pieces are something else - thanks, Brooke

It is odd how we have allowed sports and sporting phrases enter our everyday life. Very good short poem with good imagery and descriptves scheme.

Well, you know my opinion about sports already, and I would agree with you if poets received the ridiculous salaries the players get. I would be out there all day, everyday writing my fingers to the bone if it were.
Since it's not the case, I will sit here in my apartment and eat PB&J sandwiches while some guy with nimble fingers drives around in his limo being fed caviar and being admired by the world.
Very nice poem by the way.
Sincerely,
Curt

oh, I agree about the money - even within other careers - the Beverly Hills plastic surgeon is a millionaire while the free clinic doctor scrapes by - the blockbuster martial arts actor is rich and famous while Shakespearean actors of true talent languish in regional theaters. Life is NOT fair, but I still love a good football game. LOL Thanks you, Brooke

i really like the way this sums everything up, it seems to fit everything in nicely. and shows that many football fans will use a game as a way of putting other worries behind them

Ahh, a wonderful poem that articulates the way we lose ourselves into sport. Us Aussies know the feeling so well!

Mind you, our football doesn't have all the wimpy protective armour like the American football - but we won't let hiding behind metal and plastic detract from the excitement of the game! ;o)

A wonderful reminder of the excitement and benefit of sport, thanks for sharing.

Yes following football can be very enjoyable. It all depends which team one follows. I am a bit of a football addict of "Australian Rules." I hope to go some games this year with my son and his girlfriend. To watch football is fun and relaxing in a way particularly if ones team is winning.

Great writing.

Honeytree.

I could not agree with you more friend, I'm from the North East Of England born and raised, it is without doubt the poorest part of England yet to see their football team play and win on a Saturday is what keeps a lot of people alive, nothing is more important for some, NOTHING! If and when they do win you can smell the joy and happiness in the air.

Sport is an amazing thing where as there is no class difference when one follows their favourite team and cheers for them in unison.A great poem which sums the excitement and thrill of such big events.

Blessings
