I also went on a boat ride down the Nile some twenty years ago while visiting Egypt. I also lived in the Philippines for a year-and-a-half. Both places are so beautiful, but have such poverty, as described in your poem. It eats at your heart.

blessings,
ellen

This is wonderful, I wish I could travel like that, and the poverty is aweful here as well, I found no spags, and the structure is perfect for this contest. good luck and thank you for sharing.

Thanks very much for your author notes, both about a naani poem itself, and also of course about the subject of your own poem. Very well written , good luck!

Hi kiddo,
A beautiful good morning to you.
Your poem was powerful and poignant. Oxymora indeed. Great finale. Made me think. Thanks for sharing.

What a true little naani. Was in Egypt myself not so long ago and it truly is not a rich place. However, that doesn't seem to stop the people to be beautifully hospitable. Well written.

Best of luck!

A beautiful tale of poverty all over the world. Life is so full of contridictions, but having it pointed out in such a dramatic way must have been emotional. Well written, no SPAG. Blessings, Deb

Hi, Sue.
Terrific contrasts expressed of our comfort and their poverty. Mind you, I bet if a poll was taken on contentment and happiness THEY'D win hands down.
Enough philosophy fa one day, LOL. Excellent and thought-provoking write. Good luck and best wishes, Ray xx

Yes it's sad yet true. It eats away at the heart and makes one want to just forget it at times but the brain says no. Good luck with your entry

I was so touched, reading your words, I am living in the middle of this poverty myself and know what you mean with your author notes. I go to bed every night, under my warm duvet and feel guilty! I hate to through away one tiny bit of bread! Thank you for feeling this way, some people just look beyond what they see.
I am glad we met through this contest. Good luck.
Love
Pupa
