How heartbreaking!
I picture a spent, sorrow-filled woman unable to cope any longer with the grief of life and death.
I love the artwork you chose. It's a perfect complement to your poem.
Now I need to wipe my tears.

Well done, Brooke! Grafton is not all that far from where I live in the islands. Was Rebecca Parks a relative, or how did you learn of her. I happen to be a bit of a genealogy addict...
Thanks for sharing,
Donna

I lived in New England for 13 years while going to college and grad school and we used to go on weekends and vacations to rub stones and just haunt graveyards - at the time I also bought a dozen books on gravestone art and she is in all the books though I first saw her in person :-) Thanks, Brooke

this is indeed too great a grief, at least in the poetry/story,
the rhythm is right on but the ending of the poem seems and looks like the end of a struggle.

This is wonderful rhyming poem about a tragedy. I liked the poem a lot, and coupled with your Author Notes, it was interesting to consider the situation you describe. With all her sorrows, it's a wonder she didn't die sooner. Very good rhyme and pace, I like this poem a lot.

This is an excellent historical poem, very well done in rhyme and meter, and author notes make me wonder if you shouldn't do a series of these pieces, either based on women/gravestones or some other common bond. Great job!

Hi Brooke, yes it was, but I have to think that God, in Infinite Wisdom, knew what he was doing; anyway I look at those kids as personal angels now. Blessings, Tricia

What a powerful poem, even more powerful in that it is based on a true story. So heartbreaking. You did a wonderful job with this.

And we complain about health care, now. Nearly 70 years ago, my parents first born died, at age 3 mo. on pneumonia. Still dangerous, yet readily curable, today.

My first born was induced when 24 days late - I'm pretty sure that would have killed both of us, to carry him until he just died. Yeah, yay for modern medicine! Thank you, Brooke

A sad sad tale but someone has to retell it. Thanks for searching this one out and adding to it your own choice description. Well penned throughout. Cheers, Don

This was a sad and touching poem about a mothers love and losing her children. I am glad that you wrote notes about the Park family so that I could fully understand. How tragic and awful this mother's life must have been. Very well done. Thank you for sharing her story so beautifully.
