Definitely a time in our history we should never forget. Such confusion! You described it beautifully. How do we grasp the things we did during that time? Yup, I'm still wrangling with it myself! Loved it!

Wow, this is so dramatic and thought-provoking! You are correct, there are still many unanswered questions in regard to the Vietnam War. You did an excellent job with posing the neverending questions. Maybe one day someone can answered them...

can appreciate your intermixture of "...allit-
eration, sprinkle of rhyme and dramatic repeti-
tion..." to poetically explain your unsophisti-
cated position on the aforementioned events. I
along with other naifs/soldiers did as we were
ordered, not unlike soldiers serving in all the
branches of the military as we breathe. The art-
work used poignantly bring back some painful mem-
ories and bittersweet feelings of "Those Lost
Years." Thanks for reminding me of how lucky I

Yes, I will never forget my first visit to the Wall. I was in my 30's by then. Had children. Thought I was just going to visit a beautiful monument to all those soldiers. When I got up to that wall, without warning I broke down and just wept...and wept.
The enormity of it all. To see where someone had placed a soldier's combat boots by his name, a letter. And all those names. They were only kids. Took me all those years to have emotions about the war and those times. So glad I went. Hope it doesn't bother you that I wrote this. It's just something from my heart I wanted to share.

I enjoy reading all types of poetry at all levels, and find
the poems written from inner feelings, private views and
personal experiences are the ones which provoke genuine
emotions. I also believe the conscience won't allow certain
opinions to go unexpressed. Moreover, your work was the
catharsis I needed (it brought back my "...Lost Years").

Dear Sixteenkid, I was about the same age back then. I couldn't figure it all out either. War never makes sense, but you poem touched a spot in my soul I thought was long buried. A great poem in my mind.

I think you are not alone Sixteezkid in your feelings here. I am from the same era and also 53 and you and I felt similar even in different countries on the other side of the world. The words you chose were spot on and the picture adds to the poem's emphasis well.

Wow, this is a great poem! I remember some of these happenings myself. I have a B'day coming up this month and will be 52 years of age. I remember wanting to go to Woodstock at 12 and meet Jimmy but all the adults looked at me and laughed. I'm like, "What the heck you all laughing at"? I didn't think it was funny, but anyway - lol
I love this piece and you have stuck to the requirements! And things haven't changed much. I don't know if that is good or bad, but maybe its just evolution. Thanks for the memories!

Well, the unique aspect of those times (that are different than now), is the sadness of when the soldiers came home. They were so isolated from all sides. Terrible. Protestors mocked them and older people couldn't find it in them to say they were heroes. They were abandoned. Always broke my heart. Thank you very much for your review. With regards, Sue

It was a hard time. Married to a Vietnam vet and I can tell you they went to serve most cause they did it for their country and they were never prepared or properly thanked. It was a sad time and is still hard for them to deal with. Thanks, Jeanette

Yes, I can remember well those long-hung faces of our soldiers coming home. They didn't talk about anything. They felt so much shame, yet didn't know why. No, they won't ever get over it. Very weird times. Thank you for reading and for your very kind review. Sue
