I'm familiar with these
paintings - your words
paint a good picture...
I can see them there
drooping in the vase.

A pleasure to review, my friend,
Margaret.

Hello dewpearl.
Sorry. I'm so late with this review. This is another good one. I wonder if he'd have painted the dandelions my granny put in her vase. Remember? I'm off to relax a bit. The mind is getting too tired. Love

Ah, Brooke, yet another piece of art about a piece of art! Excellent expressions of the beauty found in the wilting sunflowers!
Once again - well done!

"vibrant blooms in disarray weave spells" is quite memorable. I did not realize you were doing a cycle of cinquains inspired by great paintings. You depicted a very recognizable Van Gogh (one of the first artists I copied as an exercise in a oil painting class).

Thanks again for bringing a memory back to life.

Van Gogh is an enigma. I have heard it said that his work represents the way a terribly mentally disturbed person actually sees life. He was a tortured genius. Often the mentally ill or addicted personality creates remarkable works - Van Gogh and Dali to name two. Excellent series of poems you are creating. They would make a very interesting book if accompanied by the pictures you describe.

Thank you for your encouraging words about this series - yes, the mentally ill, the alcoholic, the emotionally tortured, many great artists and writers have come from this group. Brooke

I've seen that painting and yes it does have for some reason a certain appeal. It is a true depiction that life is not all blooming and bright. That is what I got out of it. Great message in so few words.

This is a wonderful poem. It brings to mind a vivid image. I've left flower on the sill longer than I should have, oops. I like the flow this poem has. Maybe there's some philosophical point in there if we look hard enough.

The first six and the last two syllables make this poem for me. The rest is nice imagery, but the "meat and potatos" is in those first six and last two. You've captured some of the mystery of the attraction of this painting, but there's as yet no answer as to the appeal. And that's as it should be. Nicely written... xo Adam

thank you - most people focus on the middle lines, but I am proudest of the first six, so I am grateful you highlight them. Brooke

I am familiar with this painting and really like it. You've done a great job with the poem, yet again. I love the way you say that the vibrent blooms weave spells. I suppose that's the way we feel when we look at a painting like this and are mesmorised. Great imagery. Well done.

Warm regards.

Roisin
