A great poem. Full once again of the joy of looking forward to the new year

The idea of the lantern with ist constantly changing colours and aspects makes this a pleasure to read and ponder on

Excellent poem. It does remind you of the shadows that reflected in the old movies seen on TV and how the the lanterns were bright. However, it is an excellent example of how Christ is resplendent in our lives that are cast in the shadows of death before we were redeemed in His blood. I like to look at it that way. God bless.

I like your interpretation - different people will read a poem according to their own experiences and beliefs, and I'm thrilled you brought something to the table of your own.

Thank god you explained "Phantasmagoria" I was just reaching for the dictionary.
You're almost as bad as Peter with your outrageous choices of vocabulary...."resplendant" indeed!
I like that this poem is almost built around the phantasmawhatsit and the connections you draw between vision and hope.
great!

It isn't almost built around it - it IS built around it - it is what I started with, one of my all-time favorite words, and I went from there - you're much funnier in this review than the Very one - glad to see you getting your wits back about you LOL Thank you, young man. Brooke

OO stop teasing me you utter meany!
One of these days you will say something tragically unfunny and I shall write a poem about it!

you just called me a meanie!! I better not say anything tragically unfunny now or I know I'll get pounced on - and I forgot about that whole clutch thing!!!

Pah! Automatic cars are just like majical machines! You only need to point them in the right direction! He cried scornfully whilst stalling his polo AGAIN!

just point them in the right direction - show off!! hope you stall again just to teach you a lesson, little whippersnapper - I haven't had to call you that in a while LOL

Must mean I'm not being cheeky enough then.
By the way nice to see you enrolled in my contest! May the battle commence!

I could not pass up your contest, especially since you're not one of those unreasonable sponsors who gives people two days or 15 hours to write!! And you're plenty cheeky enough!! :-D

Not to be cynical but I am slightly suspicious of those who set such short deadlines....t'would be a fine chance for a little pre-writing would it not...
And while I'm at it they are probably bribing people for votes with member cent pumps!!!!
    CONSPIRACY!

you may well be right, my cynical young man!!

The all seeing eye of the poet. May we deliver on those visions that fill us with wonder (that includes good and bad). Life is a "phantasmagoria," a stewpot, a kaleidoscope, not to mention an amorphous zoo, from which to draw inspiration. Thanks.

Dreaming is the gateway to one's soul, so I've heard. It serves so many purposes. Again,Brooke, you've demonstrated your craft for us to enjoy while teaching me something.
Thanks as always,
David

This one is very good. Your imagry, combined with the graphic really work well together, and the story catches a slice of the pie that the world of dreams is. . .

Happy New Year! Lovely cinquain! And what a fantastic wor 'phantasmogoria'! I love the photograph you have tied in with it, and how you have alluded to the reflection of past years, with the anticipation of the new. An overall positive feel to it too!

Nice use of "resplendent" and "phantasmagoria"--words that sound great in any context. I especially like them for this particular subject. If there's anything lacking here, it's a concrete *image* for me to get to grips with. Something I can visualise. The cinquain at the moment is still abstract. It's tough with so few words, I know, but I only really had the photo to paint me your vision of the New Year. And we can't give points to artwork.

Still, a good effort nonetheless.

Beautiful, Brooke. I had to look up phantasmagoria, and then I read your notes! What a clever way to depict looking into the new year, as there are many, many facets to the possibilities that lie within our reach. I suppose, the final scene will depend entirely upon how we choose to respond to them. Brilliant work and wonderful thoughts for 2009. Are you going to make a booklet of cinquains? Take care, and have a Happy New Year!
Heather

This is a great little poemt o help start the new year with hope. I love the picture...I adore birds and birdhouses and the one in the picture is so unique. I'm glad you explain in your notes what phantasmagnoris means, because I had no idea. Is the picture supposed to represent the magic latern you speak about in your notes?

Cheers!
Daizie

well, the picture is as close as I could find though I know it's not a magic lantern machine - poetic license does extend to illustration selection, I hope. LOL Thanks ever so much for your lovely review, Brooke
