Nice sharing of childhood memories. We made ghosts at Halloween and tied them to strings and hung them from the ceiling fan. Turn the fan on slow and the ghosts flew around the room.

How absolutely delightful, Brooke! Of course, I had lots of Golden Books that I treasured, but I never got the one with the kleenex and bunny directions. We loved making kleenex flowers. Great memories, my friend.

brooke,
golden books are still sold in grocery stores but just like comic books, they are now outlandish in price. sigh. i think they should be just like you remember and at a cheaper price. maybe then all children would learn to love to read.
easy to read and follow. no spaggies do i see. imagery is excellent. keep up the good work~
love,
barbara

I loved the picture and is absolutely beautiful and very fitting for these words. Making bunnies and other animals with Kleenex tissue must have been fun.
"With nothing but our tissues and some string,
we made carnations from their diagrams.
Fold a sheet like an accordion,
then fluff the edges just like in their plans.
We must have made five hundred if not more -
the hours we spent I'd hate to calculate.
A fold, a fluff, a tie, a tear, a shred -
then magic came from what I'd helped create.
In fifty years since then we have progressed -
virtual worlds exist to entertain.
I only wish I had another chance
to make a Kleenex bunny once again. "
Very creative words written here.

You know Brooke I can imagine I would have had hours of fun many times over with a book like this when I was a child.
What a cute idea! I can imagine we would have had a hard time finding anything to blow our noses with for fear of destroying a masterpiece though.
Well one!

adewpearl,
I loved the theme of this one. All things are moving effectively, nice and full of flashy impressions, well expressed.
The metering was really off many times through this poem. That is where I have troubles too.
I only spotted one error-
Before I knew it** we were hard at work,
**a comma goes here
Everything else looked good.
I look forward to seeing you again.
Love you,
Oatmeal

I wasn't aware of the information you gave in the notes. I remember Golden Books, but not the rest. This is a really clever poem, Brooke--nostaligic and a pleasure to read!

I owned every Golden Book every produced. We made Barbie doll hats from cardboard egg cartons. What fun we had and memories we made before tv and video games. Great read. joan marie

Penny, thanks so much - I am writing these memory poems for my daughter, who, of course, never met her grandmother. I am trying to compile a portrait of her grandparents for her, as well as a glimpse into my early life - I am so glad you enjoy my memories also! Thank you for your most gracious response, Brooke
