Oh, how I wish I had a six star!
What can I say? This poem was fantastic, magical, touching and imaginative. I love everything about it and I would not change a thing.
I love the stanza:

From this day forth you'll wear holly berries,
rich red as the blood My Son soon will shed,
and a gown of pure white, as pure as He,
with a crown of ivy upon your head.

A Christmas fairy, how delightful!

Thanks so very much - there are many artistic renditions of Christmas fairies - believe me, I know as the mother of a fairy collector, but the myth is my own invention. Brooke :-)

Ah... what would a Christmas tree be without a fairy on the top:) Now I know the real reason, I will treat mine with much more respect! A wonderful weaving of the story of Christmas and the fantasy land of fairies Brooke. There's clearly a book missing from the Bible ... the Book of Oberon. Tom x

Most people have an angel, not a fairy, and my fairy-loving daughter would not want you confusing the two!!!! Glad you enjoyed this poem - cute Bible joke :-) Thanks, Brooke

Well, I'm sure your fairy loving daughter would like to know that, in the UK, it is more common to have a fairy than an angel:) Tom x

Absolutely phenomenal! That is simply brilliant. I love it mostly because it's so beautiful and I would expect to see things like this in print winning awards! You must print a poetry book with this one.

Thanks so very much - I got the idea about 8 or 9 last night and finally posted close to 2 - it is nice to know that after all that work someone truly appreciates it! LOL Your compliment is most encouraging and your generous rating most kind! Brooke

What a wonderful Christmas poem with a beautiful story within. This is one of those rare poems that could last for centuries to be told year after year during the Holiday season. Excellent post my friend. Hugs, Suzi

Brooke - I love your fairy poems and, in this poem, loved the way you incorporated one to tell a story about the holly. Very imaginative write with great story telling, rhyme and pace. Charlie.

Charlie, I loved writing this one. Once I thought of the idea I stayed up half the night writing it! Got up this morning after three hours sleep since I serve breakfast at the Center on Tuesdays. thanks for appreciating what I lost all that sleep over!! Brooke

I enjoyed the subtle humour.
The Rhyme is sublime, the poem just flows so gracefully.
TY about the holly and the ivy. That carol never made sense before.
This is like bringing Disney to Christmas, in the way that Kids will love this poem. Bringing in a fairy and explaining about her endurance. Is a great allegory.
Majestic poetry...

What a most lovely thing to write - I really like my own poem too, if that is allowable LOL Sometimes one just feels inspired, and this is one of those times :-) thank you! Brooke

Funny how one can feel guilty for liking their own work...
Your welcome, this is a wonderful poem.
    Enjoy it...:)

well, one is supposed to be humble, not prideful - that is not my strongest virtue - the humble thing LOL I'm not great at patience either, while I'm offering up my confession to you! ;-)
reply by Algernon on 16-Dec-2008
    A confession..Anymore? I'll play priest...
reply by the author on 16-Dec-2008
well, I already wrote a whole essay on the fact that I'm no housekeeper or cook, so no point confessing to that one so the list so far is that I'm prideful, impatient, a lousy housekeeper and cook. Hmmmm, what to add?? While I'm politically to the left of my Democratic party, I can be quite intolerant of stupid people and have a hard time convincing myself that stupid people really should be given the vote. Mind you, I said stupid, not uneducated as they are often not the same thing at all.
OK, one more - I have moments when I am tempted to choke the life out of people who post without any attempt at proofreading - I understand not everyone has my grasp of commas after introductory adverb clauses, but how does someone claim to take pride in his work when he can't even correct typos or spell the word "were" correctly?? That's it - other than that, I'm practically perfect in every way! LOL
reply by Algernon on 16-Dec-2008
Yikes, that's me done for, I'm lousy at grammar. So I'm deaded.
    Shall I start self-choking.LOL.
Yanky politics is very different. Stupid people are the ones whom give me some of the best ideas, just before I choke them..LOL

HAHA, and I got 85% in my English exam. I must of had the guide dog marking my paper....
reply by the author on 16-Dec-2008
Remember, I don't want to choke those people who simply don't understand every grammar rule - I want to choke the ones who sound as if English is their second language despite the fact they were born and bred here over 50 years ago!! And the ones who type th for the and al for all - any idiot can proofread for the correct spelling of the!!! LOL I've read your stuff - you need not choke yourself. I might give you the names of a few people you could choke for me, though! LOL

Very, very well done! Rhyme and rhythm aide nicely as you tell the tale. I'm not sure if I knew the symbolism of the holly... so thanks for the lesson, too.

Thanks for sharing,
Donna

What lovely homage you pay to the Christmas
legend of the holly and the ivy. Such sweet
images you create to tell the story of
one so loyal and giving. This is a
heart-warming depiction of this
Christmas story. Nicely done! Carolyn
