So hurt and damaged so cast out and broken, as I read it I felt sick, I started thinking and wondering how people can be so full of hatred. I really liked this one. It struck a cord thats for sure!

Hi Brooke,

This is quite a description of Pecola and her trials and tribulations. Thank you for sharing the author notes. It adds to the meaning behind your word choice. Interesting picture as well.

Brooke - As always, I enjoy reading your alphabet slaughters, but, this time, the author's notes were even better. Love the education. Thanks for all your work. Charlie.

What a very sad story, a little dark girl wanting blue eyes, I have never thought about it before but that is virtually impossible isn't it? She had a very sad life and you used excellent words to get through your aphabet.
Excellent work Kay

yeah, she wanted to look like Shirley Temple, whom everyone loves and whom people sing and dance with - she lived in the midst of way too much reality to want something else realistic!! Thank you, Brooke

Hey, Brooke. Good poem here. Some very hard-hitting words and some very shocking lines. All good stuff. In your author notes, not that it matters, you have her traveling to the realm of madness twice. But other than that, excellent job.

Never before have I read a poem where each word or line had such strong meaning and graceful flow. The A to Z format in which this is wrote justs adds to the excellent quality of the work. I feel as if I could understand the story behind it without having read the author's notes.

A haunting, dark tale of what it is to be an outcast, whether by one's own making, society, family, or a horrid combination of the three. The best compliment I can think to give is that you told me the story clearly before I read the author's notes.

Another fabulous A-Z poem, Brooke. You are so great at this format. You should gather them all together and publish them in a big beautiful illustrated book.

Well, I love all your word choices that paint such vivid pictures. I've never read a Toni Morrison book before, but will keep my eye for her books, especially this one.

Thanks for all the enlightening notes. Living in a country where we are supposed to have free speech, I can't imagine this book being banned. In some classes it should be required reading with a book report and discussion group.

Thanks for sharing
Well done...;)

You would be amazed about banned books - every year the librarians' association publishes a list - google to see all the classics that have been banned by one or more towns or school districts - it will make you choke!!! Thanks so much, Brooke

Wow, what a emotional poem. The format of using the letters of the alphabet was very well done. Each word had a powerful impact. It was a very good way to have the meaning come accross. Very well done.
