Here you paint a beautiful, awe inspiring portrait of the natural beauty of your native land. the stark, almost harsh beauty of the dry grasslands, with their golden and russet colors, the purifying nature of the bush fires, sweeping the land, the burning eye of the sun, all work together in a poem full of rich imagry and soft, almost melancholy language, to create this sense of a wonder at the works of nature. great format for it, these rhymed quatrains, great meter as well. nice job EKPoet

So what's life like down under? I always wanted to visit there, Australia is such a unique place among all our places here on Earth. I live in NY, enjoy ing the snow now, ready to put up my Christmas tree. What do you think of Obama as our new pres? EK

I live in oz and think you have captured the essence of our beautiful but harsh country in spectacular fashion. The poem flows well and is filled with creative imagery. I would suggest leaving the word knife out of this line (Of solar knife blades stabbing down)as you still have the word (stabbing) to create the image. Either way a great poem. I spose a 'bushfire' works just as well, though they tend ta scream a bit! Seriously, this is extremely well crafted, I love it! The meter's not perfect, but it still rages, I MEAN flows along brilliantly.

Hey, thanks for poppin in and taking a look. I truly hate perfect meter, but sometimes I adopt it for the sake of it. I'm pretty glad you liked this one and took it in the spirit it was given ... Yes, I suppose one's perception of "bush" can be bring a myriad of images ... even wishful thinking at times ...

I think Mother Nature is a tempermental witch. She reigns with such fury both in summer and winter. Your poem describes summmertime in the harsh terms it deserves. I have heard that Australian summers are sometimes devastating and your words clearly define that. Excellent writing, as usual. I hope you soon hear the gentle pattering of raindrops on your roof. I think we will as the kookaburras have been laughing which usually heralds rain. We're lucky though, as the summers of 2005 and 2006 were fraught with bush fires in the Weddin Mountains (which surround our shire), and even though it is devastating, my God what an awesome sight it is from a distance.
Thank God for air-conditioning. And my little long-haired bunny is kept clipped short, with a wet towel over his cage, a frozen bottle of water in it, and I hose the towel and ground around him three times a day. So far, he's surviving the poor little critter ...

No-one has called me on that rhyme bit, and if they did I may have chosen to ignore it! I refuse to "stilt" my work for need of perfect rhymes, so hence I often write with "near" ones in order to produce the effect. I'm just glad you enjoyed this, and saw it for what I was trying to convey. Sometimes technical stuff can be a right pain in the tush! So thank you for your terrific comments and insights my friend. And I don't envy you the cold winters you get over there, YET our summers here can be very nasty indeed! xoxoxoxoxo

I've had people list my not-exact rhymes for me and offer to review my poem again once I fix them. LOL As if I had not noticed the darn things didn't exactly rhyme all on my own! I think I may have just frustrated those people away, however, as this is more of a memory than what happens much anymore! LOL

Here in the forests of Oregon and the northwest of the United States there are wild fires every season. We cannot seem to escape them. I thought this was a very good post.
