I love your stories. They tie together well, and do speak about the holidays. You write about pain turning to laughter, families trying to deal with death, about sharing good times, and reflection. Excellent themes...well presented.

Thank you so much. One of my daughters read the piece last night. She said, "Mom, it would be so difficult to trim my good Holiday memories down to only three!" Made my day! I appreciate the generous review and your continued encouragement. ann

Loved this! It took me back to each of those times, even the ones I was not present. It would be impossible for me to pick one, two or even three holidays that stand out to me because almost every years presents something special. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

A very well written triology that is steep with the Christmas Experience. It has a smooth flow of words making it a very easy read. It has good imagery and descriptive scheme. Good luck in your contest.

You're welcome, Ann. Your Christmas tree story reminded me of the time we chopped a christree that was in a neighbor's yard. Charlie

Annmuma,
Those are indeed three lovely memories. I wouldn't dare criticize this.
A delightful read, and some great lessons. Thank you for sharing them.

Great essay, wonderful contest entry. It is so very descriptive, with those details that make reading it so much more interesting.... each holiday memory standing on its own, but blending into this essay beautifully, making your life just come alive.
This was enjoyable and such clear, concise writing.
Well done.

Each and every one of the three stories is wonderful in and of itself, Ann. You're blessed to have so many memories still so vividly locked away in your mind and heart. This is beautifully written and a real pleasure to read.

... but the (h)olidays were a challenge.

... and John filled it with chocolate(-)covered cherries. (compound adjective)

... and we touched on various(h)olidays in their lives.

... as her first (h)oliday memory.

Tony, Savannah's dad, fell asleep in the recliner(.) (E)veryone teased Mary and me ...

Light-hearted ((Lighthearted) teasing and passing of the telephone ...

... really be Savannah's first (h)oliday memory!

The third stanza in this three(-)part medley ...

The (h)olidays call us to reach out ...

... to make this (h)oliday (s)eason someone's best ever!

Thanks so much for the help. I'll correct those mistakes now. I did not realize Holiday should not be capitalized. Is that a more modern day change? I appreciate your stopping by. ann
reply by Marjorie D. on 02-Dec-2008
    Good morning, Ann,

Holidays themselves are capitalized. i.e. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and so on, but '"holidays" and "holiday" aren't proper nouns, so they don't need the capitalization.

This is a very well written piece, and your idea about creating a "medley of memories" is a good one. I really like your closing sentiments, it is something that never occured to me. Actually you could apply it to every day.....every single day is someone out there in the worlds best day ever.....oh, you are opening my mind tonight!
