Brooke, what a wonderful tribute to your father. I am sure your father looked down upon you from his spot in heaven with a great big smile on his face and a gleam in his eyes when he saw you building that house. I do like to get dirty and I find building something to be rewarding as you watch it grow before your eyes. kay

It is a very rewarding thing to have fond memories of a paternal loved one. Your poem is well written with good rhyming scheme. It has good imagery and descriptive scheme.

Brooke, I am so glad I had a six star remaining for this gem. This poem moved me in so many ways, given my father was also a laborer, a hard-worker until his last days.
I got to know your father through this poem.s and others you've written.
The deeds you have done in your father's memmory is admirable.
Each poem I have read of yours reflects your beautiful, unselfish heart.

A wonderful tribute to your father, Brooke. For sure he would have been proud. You just amaze me the way you crank this poetry out! I have to work to get mine, lol. Just kidding, I know you work at it too, but you can crank circles around me. I loved reading the notes in this poem also. Reading your work brings out memories of my own.

Lois, I have this dream of being that person to whom it just comes, but I'm not. I know a young man on site who IS that person. I will say something to him in passing, and a half hour or less later, he will have produced a poem of brilliance in response. I spend hours fretting over a poem and revising it and pulling it apart, and he told me that if he can't produce a poem in 30 to 45 minutes, he knows it's just not happening. He just turned 17 last week. It's enough to make one weep. LOL You should check out his poetry - mightierthanthesword. It's not just that it's good for a kid. It's that it's fine work. I'm convinced he's a genius. Thanks, Brooke

I know I've come across his name before. I went to his site and didn't recognize any of the names of the poems, but they are all so short, I might not remember. I'll have to look further to see if I've reviewed any of them. Or he may have reviewed some of mine. Thank you for pointing his work out to me.

I enjoyed reading this beautiful poem. It was cleverly conceived and put together. The image of that uncommon devotion you set out to paint is vividly captured in your well chosen words. kudos, adewpearl.

This one struck a cord with me. I know the black dust of a coal miner and the grey of a construction worker and the dedication of both these men (my father and my husband) to their families. You reminded me of the way it was. thank you for sharing. Miska

Ilove this one. It is a wonderful poem, Pearly One... a loving memory well expressed. It expresses an elegant expression of love. I am glad you were able to appreciate his action and all it implied. It is things like this that one might so easily take for granted. Great to be aware and to appreciate the goodness and caring of others. Life is not only about giving, but it is also very much about receiving with thanks. Thanks for capturing this thought in your poem.

This provided a gateway to thinking of how hard my own Dad worked. My compliments for stirring those emotions by your writing. A lovely tribute. Your Dad must be looking down so proud of the daughter he raised for her compassion and her artistic talent, amongst other qualities. Excellent. LadyMary

Lady Mary, every time a reader tells me a poem of mine caused her to think about her own family or situation, I feel as if all I've tried to do has succeeded, so I thank you for this validation. You are most kind. Thank you, Brooke :-)
