So many people have been affected by the horrors of war, Adewpearl. Yes, it's almost strange that so many of them don't want to talk about their experiences and what they witnessed. Your poem speaks volumes with so few words. This is a brilliant piece of poetry, cleverly composed too. Penelope

You are an amazing writer, are you being published? you should be. this was just wonderful. The more lines I read the harder my heart pounded. You are right, there are so many stories never told. My father was also in that war, and has never said a word.

Not being published yet - that is my next goal. I wish I knew more how to make that happen. Thank you for your kind comments, and I salute your dad! Peace, Brooke

I protested the Vietnam War, but I at all times honored and still honor the men who fought in that war. My gripe was always with the government who sent them where we did not belong and not with one single boy who risked his life. I honor your father's service. Thank you so very much,Brooke

I'm finding from reviewers that almost all of them with dads who are combat vets have had the same experience of reticence.
Thanks so much for sharing your story, and for your kind review, Brooke

This is really good and quite thought provoking. Much pondering and meditation is needed to feel the essence within the words given and the imagery that comes forth. My father was a Navy man, and he too, never really spoke of the war. All he ever shared of his time, was getting up early in the morning and doing sommersaults across the deck for exercise, and his tattoos, but nothing else.
You do have to wonder though, how would they express such times so that others could comprehend what they experienced, without passing judgement. I guess silence was the better option, for many returned never sharing anything, although their eyes told you there was something hidden deep within. Well worded and expressed.
Many blessings to you

adewpearl,
once again you dance through the dictionary with such skill and jam together all the words that alone are simply words into a string of wisdom pearls for us to consume...
the assonace of each line gives this peom all it needs to slip smoothly into the mind.
simply amazable,
rick

Wow ... this is fantastic. I love the last two lines and the way they stand out against the other "in the"s
I enjoyed the note about your father. My grandfather was in the war and is deceased now. He never spoke about it either. I guess it was best left in the past.

Everyone is telling me the same thing about reticent dads and grandfathers - it appears to be pretty much a universal response. Thanks so much, Brooke

My father, like yours, never told stories of his experiences during wartime. He was a changed man, and I always wondered what horrors he lived through to make him that way.
The style is interesting and effective in relaying the emotion to the reader.
A pleasure to have read and reviewed.
Sincerely,
Curt
