I wish I had six stars for this powerful essay. Well done! It really said it all about the election of the first black president. Good Job! John Brown is also my hero. Did you know that Henry David Thoreau wrote an essay pleading for the life of John Brown?
For John Brown, my personal hero, a white man who laid down his life to end slavery, and was, in doing this, labeled a crazy man, today, everything is possible. For Harriet Beecher Stowe, a white writer whose Uncle Tom's Cabin stirred many throughout the nation to cry out for freedom for their brothers and sisters, today, everything is possible.

Yes, I know of Thoreau's essay that is great that Brown is your hero too - you and I are obviously of the same political and social persuasion! Thank you, Brooke

Yes, Brooke. I really think that with a President Obama, much is possible and barriers were finally broke. I wish him and the nation the best. Fine commentary. Much Love, Dean

Dean, thanks - I was a tad worried with this one and the anti-war poem contest that someone would win who entered totally against the spirit of the prompt, but in the end that did not happen. My daughter and I were crying like babies over the phone that night. Now he needs to deliver.
And people need to give him a little time to do it! Thank you, Brooke

I believe everything is possible. I did not vote for OBama--but he did win. Its now time to put aside our differences and come together to solve the problems of our nation. By working together we can accomplish a lot, separate, we will all fail regardless of who the "President-Elect" is.
Like all of our past leaders, my prayers will be with OBama to guide and lead into a brighter future.

Agreed, but I still hear alot of grumbling by those who are really disturbed Obama's opposition lost. And, I am still a little fearful (referring to your last essay) that some nut out there will act on his/her antipathy for our new president. But, we go on and hope for good things for him and for our country. babbi

oh, many people are fearful and angry and not a little miffed. I do hope nobody has a crazy reaction as that would ignite this country like we have never seen. Thank you so very much for your extremely thoughtful review, Brooke
