This is clever and creative, Brooke. Though free verse, it has an atmosphere, a music of its own which clearly separates it from prose. I think the secret lies in all those images and the short lines. Your well chosen words heighten the kaleidoscopic effects. Peter

I don't do free verse often, so I am pleased you like it!
Thank you for your kindness, Brooke :-)

Ok another marvelously written poem... very well crafted, I enjoyed the read very much and the analogy of life's shattered dreams to a kaliedascope works wonderfully!
to quick give way to new design = quickly giving way to new design
Great job! -jarls

This really hit hard and I think I shall make it my new daily creed - it rings true all of what you wrote along with the wonderful author notes. Thanks for reminding me it is only the dream that is shattered but it may be replaced eaually as quickly by a new and even more wonderful one.

You are so wonderful to make such comments. Knowing one of my poems connected with a reader to this degree is more than I ever hope for. Thank you so much for your generosity, Brooke :)

Very good poem and inspiring. You have grasped how cruel life can be but you give much hope if we are patient. Your first stanza really caught my attention. Great job.

I loved the thought behind this exceptional poem, Brooke. There is much to learn from it, and it is so worthy of sharing with others. Many of us think our lives shattered and are afraid to consider ourselves as anything but what we once were. Your poem illustrates that we are who we are today, in our present form and circumstance. Loved this one.

This is a beautiful and deep philosophical piece that has the ability to heal emotional wounds. I was particularly touched by the line that says that one picture that passes is replaced by another, which is often better than the one it replaces. Good work. Thanks for sharing

I really liked this. It captures the feeling of "the best is yet to come" perfectly. Because I agree with you. Life is like a kaleidescope because if we let it, each day can be better than the last. Wonderfully done.

Thank you so much for this generous rating and your insightful review - quite a few people commented only on liking kaleidoscopes, so it is nice to see you recognizing the larger meaning. :-) Brooke

Wow. This is GREAT!! I don't think I've read anything else by you yet (I'm new to the site), but I love this. It's simple and profound. The descriptions are clear and I can envision them. You get a well deserved 6 stars from me. I usually take notes when I review and post them for the writer (stream of thought and picking out the SPAG), but goodness I got so tied up in this poem, I forgot. Don't change a word.

Brooke, (I got it right this time)
For so many reasons, this well-written poem has touched my heart. As you eloquently, color shifts and the kaleidoscopically viewed is life where hope each day's renewed.
I needed to hear those words today and will meditate on them.
This is truly a remarkable poem, one that has Poem of the Month quality. I sincerely mean that.
