This is one of the best poems I have read on here. Great job. Beautiful imagery.

I love this first stanza:

Give me a carpet of gossamer green,
so my footsteps fall soft on the ground.
Let me tread light on diaphanous ferns,
so my presence makes barely a sound.

Very nice.

Christin, I am moved and honored by your comments, not to mention thrilled you read a piece no longer promoted. Not many people review what they don't get the buck for. :-) Thank you so very much for this most generous rating, also.
    Peace, Brooke

See- you've done it again... you've forced me to award a six star rating.... I don't do that!! So stop it!! Really wonderfully written, I like it alot! If you have time look in my portfolio for a poem called "A Psalm of Greenfields", it reads a little bit like this and I think you might enjoy it but it's no where near as good as this piece!! -all my best, jarls

I always have the time for you, friend. And I thank you for this most generous review - see, and now after I just read the seahorse is not your favorite, this means even more to me :-) Peace, Brooke

My favorite part was the ending. You did a wonderful job and I love the colors that you selected for the piece. Good luck in the contest

Bid me goodnight when the nightingales sing
peaceful vespers that reach to the stars.
And then, undisturbed, I will shed all my cares,
serenaded by heavenly choirs.

Hi adewpearl. In this poem you do something very special. You grab the reader and whisk them from their computer to land slap bang in your poem. Reading this, I really felt I was there walking through the forest beneath rays of sunshne and besides crystal waters. well done.

You know Brooke, I wish I had half the talent and knowledge to compose like you do. Linda and you really put some great poems on this site.

This poem, reinforces my happiness to still be alive after what had gone thru the last 3 yrs. I don't go to church, grew up catholic, became disenchanted with religion period. I know there is a God and what he has done for me.

Great poem, Brooke..............always Jim

My Presbyterian congregation has quite a few ex-Catholics in it - many people leave a church altogether when it seems too rigid. I am happy you still have faith - that is more important than a religious affiliation, though I love both - I only miss church for blizzards :-) Thanks so much for your lovely review. Peace, Brooke

Oh my!

Brooke, this prayer is so beautiful. I was there alongside you on your quiet walk under the canopy of trees and at the waters for a satisfying drink. I could feel the breezes blowing and the whippoorwill calling. You utterly drew me in to your writing.

The serene, pristine beauty of nature that dwells within your poem is magnificent. What a gift you have. To me... With your description of the breathtaking imagery, and ambiance of intimate harmony with nature and the Lord, you have created a masterpiece.

The following passage is particularly delightful...
"Sweeten the air with the redolent scent
of the lilacs that bloom by the stream.
Make me a perfume of daisied delight
that I'd wear in my pleasantest dream."

Bravo!
Standing O.

Blessings,
~Nic

This is so spiritually moving. The choice of words to describe the beauty of nature and its inspiration throughout one's day projects a great sense of tranquility. The rhyme is excellent and enhances the reading. Excellent quatrain. LadyMary

Where do you find this place? I need to borrow your rose
colored glasses my friend. I have a minor nit-maybe.

Give me a carpet of gossamer green,
so my footsteps fall soft on the ground.
Let me tread light on diaphanous ferns,
so my presence makes barely a sound.

You did use two different words (adjectives)but they basically mean the same--gossamer/diaphanous. Can you change one? Like maybe a different adjective for grass. Makes it more interesting.

An aside. Most newspapers, exception Wall Street Journal, are written at a sixth grade level. Think those readers know what "diaphanous" means?

Rob, I've discovered something about many of the writers of this site, who may not exactly be members of the intelligentsia. Most who keep coming back to my stuff, at least, are intellectually curious - lots will admit, especially in my alphabet poems, that they have to take out the dictionary a few times, but nobody ever says that in a complaining way - well, there was one person once, but 99% of the time, people thank me for teaching them new words.
I have a few people who seem to enjoy that more than any other aspect of reading my poems. I think it's cool that there are people here who want to grow. Thank you for your review - it is lovely to see you stop by. Peace, Brooke :-)

You slapped me--ow. I wasn't putting anyone down---not my style unless they deserve it. I believe very strongly in growing the mind. One of my interest, is what I call "Brain Power." I got interested in this when taking no credit course in anthropology. They claim the physical size of the brain has not changed in over 600,000 years--interesting. So one of my questions to my dear friend who was also my anthropology prof, does that mean that our prehistoric cousins had the same learning power? In this area, also got into researching dementia/Alzheimer

I've never slapped one person in my entire life, not my style :-) that is a fascinating question about the power to learn way back when - since they started out knowing so little, I guess it took lots of brain power just to figure out all those things our ancestors figured out and passed down to us. I'm not so sure I'd want to be the one to have to figure out how to catch, kill and cook a wild animal! :-D

Have you read my verses, "Cousins" & "My Uncle Harry?" Harry is a homophone, "My Uncle Hairy."

Evolution, we can't deny. Other things we can.

    Rob

PS. I call you Pearl--I calls you Brooke---and ,I noticed you signed your note "D". Do you know your name?

The :D is a big smile, silly - are you pulling my leg or are you one of those people who doesn't chat on the internet - just a couple of days ago I had to explain LOL to Margaret Snowdon :-) that, by the way, is a smaller smile
reply by boberto on 01-Nov-2008
you made me chuckle---does not happen often. Your comment about smile size is a winner. No, I don't chat often.

I did the artwork for "Cousins". Could have been better. I'm a fair artist--do some graphics stuff on computer. Never did it for a living, but the ability and training to do it, has come in handy at times.

I did not notice you were the artist - I'm impressed - my artistic abilities are not nearly as high up on the evolutionary scale as yours - I'm pretty much limited to the drawings my children used to delight in of rainbows and butterflies :-)

Since so much of your work is truly funny, why are you not chuckllng much, Rob?
I should think a man with your sense of humor would be laughing all the time!

I think you've touched on something of life across the veil here, Brooke - if that is how one wants to live it. I asked Louis to take a look because it struck a chord with me, and he said yes, that is what it's like. Beautiful piece, this!

You will be delighted to know that Offie is helping me write this, if sitting patting my leg counts as helping. Oh, I think I've insulted him, he's just turned his back! Oh well.

Louise :D
