Yes, I think cows do indeed cogitate. I think I would have tried to get the word "rumination" in somehow, although your choice or reverie fits batter, so I'll shut up! I once got herded out of a field I was crossing by a huge crowd of cows; as a group, they can be quite intimidating!

My friend Peter already brought the rumination thing up, and it would be a swell choice, but I just got used to reverie. :-) Thanks for your great review, Brooke :-)

Nice work again Brooke. Fresian cows eh? Yup world wide recognition, the bovine look, indifference, yet curious big brown eyes. The cogitating, ruminating, cow jumped over the moon. LOL just thinking, don't mind me. well done

Now, why in the world would I mind you? If cows can contemplate, so can you! Thanks for your humorous review, Brooke :-)

What a lovely day, a cow of a time. When you can veg out and blow cobwebs away, be close to Mother Nature and just 'exist' I loved your poem and I love cows and horses - one or an udder!ZZZz

Fun! Was the parenthetical "edible flowers" necessary? Other than that, this poem was a romp in the field. Love the artwork, too. Well done!

I doubt it was necessary, just what I was in the mood to do. :-) I hate anything in poetry that is necessary, hence, my reluctance to write in iambic pentameter :-) Thanks so much for your lovely review, Brooke :-)

Hey, Brooke. You done it!!
26 words, blimey, I only just wrote the other review. That was quick, just 20 seconds!
Pure genius and a fabulous funny ending.
WELL DONE. Worth a sixer, and I'm stingy with them. Ray xx

Yes, Ray, you wrote the challenge, I read it and then composed this in 15 seconds, the other 5 seconds involved in finding the appropriate illustration ;-) Glad you enjoyed this one - now, if you challenge me to a 26 word one in iambic pentameter, you might drive to drink, so please let's not ramp up the challenges LOL Brooke

Cows. I always think of them as the laid-back barnyard philosophers that are much smarter than they are given credit for. The farmer across the street has several head of Herefords and they seem to be quite calm and contented with their bucholic lives. Their pasture mates, four painted ponies, are able to convince the cows to play once in a while, but that disturbs their cogitative processes. We have had the bull of the herd as an uninvited guest in our backyard several times. Guess the grass looked greener over here and he loves to drink out of the bird bath - as if it is his gigantic wine goblet. He always seemed well-behaved and not the least confused. Seeing the cows grazing is very calming. I loved your poem. Cows do not get enough recognition. Excellent write. Blessings to you, Linda

Now, I just couldn't pass up a poem about cogitating cows...and was pleasantly surprised that I hadn't! You have a way of getting me to reflect on things I wouldn't normally reflect on while enjoying the journey. I especially like how you set the tone of the poem with the beginning phrase, "acting blase". Excellent! And the idea of cows meditating on jumping over a smiling moon was much appreciated by this preschool teacher!

PS(I always liked those kindhearted moons when I was child)

I love cows, truly I do. You are a preschool teacher, what a wonderful profession for a kind woman. My daughter is a nanny to preschool aged children, and she, like you, is such a gentle soul. Thank you so much for this lovely review, Brooke :-)

Oh, you make me work so hard by not leaving me much to pick at but, I believe I would move the comma after "daisies" and place it behind the paren after flowers. I like "lambent" a great deal - it evokes images of counting sheep but maybe that's too deep for cows, and that would raise a question of mixing herds with flocks - this has started many a range war. Wonderful in every way. Thanks for sharing.

and why would you suspect anything is too deep for cows??

Terrific. Fun reading, and of course your A - Z talent in describing the cows brought them to life for me. I truly hope your unique approach to writing will become a compilation for a book. LadyMary

Great poem. My favorite part was the way you worded how the cows jumped over the moon. I don't know how much more creative you can get with these poems about animials, but I'm never disappointed when I open you file! Judy
