I have no doubt that, eventually, we will become an endangered species; either through our grand efforts at self-genocide or because one of the other life forms on the planet will get pissed off and evolve to the point it's higher on the food chain than we are!

Nice work, as always.

Mike

it is about destruction of their habitat and their livelihood. we kill off our own. then we go after other species. pretty sad.
easy to read grammatically but not emotionally. nicely done. gets the reader involved.
imagery is excellent. i like your pic. keep up the good work~

thanks so much, Barbara - yes, it is hard to read such things emotionally, but harder still to know they are happening!

Great, great poem. We do not worry because it is not us that will be here to serve witness to the devistation we do now to the planet, it's wildlife and it's plantlife.

It will be our great grandchildren, very soon. We will leave them a planet hotter, less inhabitable, an economy as empty as space.

Your poem is so truthful and yet no one really cares enough to do anything about it.

Excellent writing

Your words remind me of the great buffalo slaughter by the buffalo hunters who killed thousands of bison for the hide only and the elk slaughter for the antlers and ivory, leaving the meat to rot. Good job again.

Yes, those stories came to my mind also - Native Americans hunted those fine animals one by one, using every part of the animal they killed for shelter, clothing, food, and then Europeans came along who shot them by the hundreds from the windows of moving trains - how horrid, what a waste thanks so much for this thoughtful review :-)

Very well done! And you speak the truth. Some scientists say we are living in the Age of Extinction. Species are disappearing like never before. And we are the cause. Eventually we will self destruct. But life on earth will continue. We try to destroy insects but never will. If we ever suceeded we would follow quickly. But if we disappear very few insects will even notice. Good poem!

No one cares honey. You do, I do, and a few others. In the end, Sarah Palin wins. She hunt with a rifle and a helicopter. How far is that? My son hunts deer with a bow and arrow. I consider that reasonably fair. Over population of deer will starve. A limit is set. I do not hunt, nor will I ever. I do wear a fur coat. A mink. Minks had to die for my coat. They were dead before I bought the coat.

I also eat meat. I do not see cows and pig being extinct in the near future.

But clubbing baby seals in the head for their pelts seems over the top to me.

Maybe I am spliting hairs. Maybe I am justifing...maybe. But your post is never-the-less thought provoking. That is all we can be, at the end of the day .... thought provoking. Good job honey. ZeeZee

Thank you, Zee Zee. And yes, I know that too few people care, which is why I've spent my life tilting at windmills and fighting city hall and you rant - because even while we know Palin wins, we can't stop observing and caring and trying - it's part of who we are. And every once in a while, my side does win. I worked in the anti apartheid movement for several years - spoke, wrote, organized, debated, repeated that all again, over and over, and then....... we won. Kept me going. LOL Even your reviews are grand. Peace, Brooke :-) and yeah, about that coat...;-)

I would give this six stars if I had it to give. This was perfectly written. We are destroying the world and wiping so many species off the planet. Great poem.
